23 Things

Thursday, 8 April 2010. Thing 23: The Final Thing! From a personal point of view, my three favourite Things were: Twitter, Google Reader, and Delicious. The first two were sites I had previously used - however, this has only increased since starting 23 Things (the number of feeds I am now subscribed to verges on the ridiculous! Especially as it was brilliant to have colleagues involved. The trainees especially seem to have become quite attached to Twitter - and I hope it continues! Tuesday, 6 April 2010.

23 Things: February 2010

http://www.23things-jess.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Friday, 26 February 2010. Thing 12 - YouTube. Aaaah Youtube - my longtime provider of ukulele cover versions. And cats attempting to jump in and out of boxes. For this Thing I decided to explore YouTube EDU which, unlike iTunes U, I was previously unaware of. I especially enjoyed the Yale Courses. I think the educational side of YouTube is something I'll definitely be exploring more in the future - but for now here's some more ukulele goodness from Julia Nunes. Wednesday, 24 February 2010. This Thing, ho...

23 Things: Thing 20: ThinkFree

http://www.23things-jess.blogspot.com/2010/03/thing-20-thinkfree.html

Friday, 26 March 2010. Unlike Google Docs, I had not previously used ThinkFree. I decided to give it a test-run by uploading some existing documents from my computer, knowing that this often caused the most issues formatting wise. I found that uploading an existing file was a lot more long-winded than with Google Docs (which has a variety of available methods - from simply e- mailing. I will certainly consider ThinkFree. 23 Things: January 2010

http://www.23things-jess.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, 28 January 2010. Library Day In The Life. Library Day in the Life seems to be the latest blogging craze, so I thought I would join in! I chose to document this Thursday, as it was a fairly typical day with quite a high workload. It was also my evening duty this week, so this post is rather long! First reader arrives to use the Turville-Petre Room – this houses the Icelandic collections. The JISC LIS-WEB2.0 mailing list is engaged in a discussion about social networking use in libraries, ari...

23 Things: Thing 14 - Linked In

http://www.23things-jess.blogspot.com/2010/03/thing-14-linked-in.html

Friday, 5 March 2010. Thing 14 - Linked In. For this Thing, I signed up for Linked In. Having a "professional" social network certainly seems like a good idea to me - though within a week I had popped up in one of my friends "useful connections" notices, despite using my work e-mail, not filling out my profile, and him working in computer science - I'm intrigued by what algorithm they're using! 23 Things: Week 8 - Twitter

http://www.23things-jess.blogspot.com/2010/03/week-8-twitter.html

Monday, 8 March 2010. Week 8 - Twitter. I have had a personal Twitter account for slightly over a year now, however I have kept it locked/private recently as I found I was being added by an inordinate amount of (rather unsavoury! Spam bots. Also, I am definitely one of those people who gives Twitter its image of "people typing about what they ate for lunch" - so perhaps it's best not to inflict such ramblings on the world! Unrelated to all of this: my phone client of choice is UberTwitter. I use Snaptu f...

23 Things--A Lifelong Project

23 Things- A Lifelong Project. Thursday, July 22, 2010. I am tired- but excited! There are too many things that I learned to list what I received from each one. Besides, there's too much to go back to that I didn't explore as fully as I would have liked. Kudos to the staff for offering true diversified learning instead of the follow-me that I received in other technology courses. Yes, Yes, Yes, I would enroll in another course of this type. 23 Things- A Lifelong Project. Links to this post. I'm sure many...

23 Things @ CamMedLib + FollowThat....

23 Things @ CamMedLib FollowThat. For staff at Cambridge University Medical Library. Monday, 16 August 2010. Week 13: e-books a go-go. E-books are here and they're getting bigger! There have been e-books around for a few years now. And in Cambridge the e-books project. Began in 2005. Already in America, e-book sales from Amazon have overtaken paper sales. That acutally happened in December 2009), and so we can guess the direction this is going to continue on. How might students find e-books useful? Inste...

23 things - Deakin University Library

23 things - Deakin University Library. Thursday, April 2, 2009. A mashup is a web application that combines data from various sources into a single integrated tool. For example, the use of cartographic data from Google Maps can be used with real estate data providing more valuable information to the user looking at buying or renting in a particular suburb. Some great examples of mashups include. Helping New Yorkers find clean public toilets. Finding books on a topic that are less than 200 pages long.
