With a new, improved Cabair checklist in hand I knew my stuff today: 'A' checks started to make sense and when to turn carburettor heat on or off was no longer some black magic or dark secret. A similar problem as Tuesday as well: although I'm now flying the plane.

3 miles deadside: Turbulence

http://www.3milesdeadside.blogspot.com/2005/10/turbulence.html

Sunday, October 30, 2005. I should explain that today was not my first flight. Indeed I've been officially learning to fly for over a year now. Working through the week and socialising through the weekend - things get in the way though. It's hard to keep the momentum. An interesting time to try and pick up where I left off a few months ago. Not only is the weather now taking a turn for the worse but last weekend an instructor and student were killed. Decision was that I should get back into it - after too.

3 miles deadside: Just fly the plane

http://www.3milesdeadside.blogspot.com/2006/06/just-fly-plane.html

Tuesday, June 27, 2006. Just fly the plane. I won't go into the whats, whys and wheres of returning to flying and to this blog after six months absence. Today however I did return to the skies harnessing myself in and bracing myself for a frustrating lesson. That deft touch of the controls I'd developed, the near mastery of the circuit I'd assimilated. You see and hear this kind of thing in films, don't you? Trust your instincts, feel the feedback, ignore the computer, use the force, just fly the plane.

3 miles deadside: November 2005

http://www.3milesdeadside.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 13, 2005. And so we return to circuits: just like those at the gym but more exhausting for body and mind. These are to hone your discipline and skills around the airfield. When coming into land you don't just aim for the runway, you have to join a well-defined, height-regulated and Air Traffic Control (ATC)-controlled pattern. Circuits helps to speed that process up by taking off, joining the circuit and coming into land before, without stopping, powering up again and taking off. Still, ...

London Lines: August 2005

http://londonlines.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html

Chat from the capital, signals from the big smoke and myths from the metropolis. Sunday, August 28, 2005. See what I did there? No-one ever says they dislike Carnival. It's held up on a pedestal as Europe's largest street party, as an example of London's diversity, as a good time. Well the costumes are impressive but everything else seems a bit half hearted. Most of the floats are either plain trucks with sound systems or overly corporate vehicles. A great Caribbean festival but let's not steal Festival'...

http://londonlines.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_archive.html

Chat from the capital, signals from the big smoke and myths from the metropolis. Wednesday, June 29, 2005. The novelty of hearing the thunder outside followed by the thunder on the TV from the Wimbledon Championships still hasn't worn off. Last weekend when the Heathrow flight paths switched to Wandsworth you could tell whether we were on the landing approach or take-off route by whether you heard the plane on the TV or outside first: was take-off on this occasion! Posted by Paul Campy at 09:54. But then...

Chat from the capital, signals from the big smoke and myths from the metropolis. Monday, November 14, 2005. A few weeks ago I stumbled across the London Wetland Centre. Near Barnes; I say stumbled. I was on one of those exploratory walks which just happened to take me further than I'd intended when I set out several hours earlier. Posted by Paul Campy at 19:37. Tuesday, November 08, 2005. http://londonlines.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html

Chat from the capital, signals from the big smoke and myths from the metropolis. Sunday, December 18, 2005. Anti Social Behaviour Odours. One of the few things that's bugged me about Wimbledon over the last couple of years is the mess of kids and bus stops littering the entrance to the Centre Court shopping centre. And the railway station. There's not enough space to get past and it's a focal point for trouble. or at least it was. The next morning. is that the drains? Posted by Paul Campy at 22:34. They ...

London Lines: May 2005

http://londonlines.blogspot.com/2005_05_01_archive.html

Chat from the capital, signals from the big smoke and myths from the metropolis. Wednesday, May 25, 2005. Amongst the otherwise conquering conurbation there are still pockets of residential resistance in what can only be described as 'villages'. Visiting Highgate last night revealed art galleries, chocolatiers and second hand bookshops rather than the usual high street chains and kebab shops. although I notice that not even Highgate Hill has escaped the onslaught of the Tesco Metro war machine. This week...

London Lines: October 2005

http://londonlines.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html

Chat from the capital, signals from the big smoke and myths from the metropolis. Friday, October 28, 2005. A very British Olympics. Sadly it looks as though The Lost Decade season. Is coming to an end on BBC 4 however there are still some clips on the website and some of the most fascinating relate to a programme I was lucky enough to catch called 'A very British Olympics'. Fascinating stuff, true blitz spirit. If that's what London was able to do in 1948 then 2012 should rock. Tuesday, October 18, 2005.

In 3 Miles From Here. BOOKER VINEYARD: A Favorite Neighbor. Sitting in a leather chair tucked into a corner of his tasting room, Eric Jensen of Booker Vineyard is not at rest for long. Not five minutes pass before our conversation is interrupted and Eric must broker a quick resolution to piece of equipment that has been borrowed and not returned. That’s the last time we do that, he says, ending the conversation with one of his cellar hands. In 3 Miles From Here. LINNE CALODO INTERVIEW: Neal Losey. Each v...
