Three months in America

Three months in America. Tuesday, November 18, 2008. Highway One to San Francisco. Despite ongoing military action in the Middle East and the crescendo of a landmark presidential election, one issue above all else was all consuming for Americans this summer. In the land were car is king, escalating oil prices doggedly dominated the news, consistently dishing out distress to the gas guzzling public. That is until you hit Highway One at least. Upon leaving a rather macabre fog-filled San Simeon, we were qu...

Three months in America: May 2008

http://3monthsinamerica.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html

Three months in America. Wednesday, May 28, 2008. Along the way I would be spending intermittent weeks working as a reporter at various newspapers in small town America. My first in Randolph, Vermont – a town with a population of just under 5,000, in a state of which around 80% is forest. On arrival in Manhattan, via the sprawling suburban borough of Queens, it was raining and is it would remain for most of the remaining week, on the cool side. In Times Square I was coaxed into the HA! Comedy Club. I...

Three months in America: July 2008

http://3monthsinamerica.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

Three months in America. Tuesday, July 22, 2008. I moved on to Kingman, another Arizona town along Route 66, on the train delayed by some eight hours. I was to catch the dreaded Greyhound to Nevada. I stayed just one night in America’s playground, before ending my wild week in Los Angeles. I had finally made my way from the Atlantic to the Pacific coast and I was hungry for more. Friday, July 4, 2008. Or maybe you'd just have to be committed. This was just moving from the south central region to the stat...

Three months in America: June 2008

http://3monthsinamerica.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Three months in America. Saturday, June 28, 2008. Hays County, Texas. The Texas heat is incredible. Heading south I thought I'd done well to prepare myself for it. In reality I'd done nothing of the sort. Earlier in the trip I'd checked the national weather map and seen Austin, my intended destination, highlighted in the mid 30's (Celsius). El Paso, on the Mexican border to the west, was above 40 and blocked in the deepest red the colour coding could handle. The city's motto is "keep Austin weird" and th...

Three months in America: Los Angeles and Highway 101

http://3monthsinamerica.blogspot.com/2008/08/los-angeles-and-highway-101.html

Three months in America. Wednesday, August 6, 2008. Los Angeles and Highway 101. I'm not exactly sure why but the closer Los Angeles dawned the less enamoured I became with the prospect of visiting. This was somewhat strange because it was here they manufactured so many idylls of the land of the opportunity and packaged it so enticingly to my generation and others before it. Perhaps all of the cities negative connotations had seeped over time into my conscious and turned me against the place. It was fun ...

Just another WordPress.com site. Just another WordPress.com site. The last few adventures…. On Sunday Saxon and I decided to start our last few adventures with another quick trip to the West MacDonnell Ranges. Standley Chasm was first on the list, a privately run part of the Ranges, just outside the national park. The only place that we’ve had to pay an entry fee for however you never ever know if you never ever go… right? And a 2 metre long handrail at one point, nevertheless the chasm at the end of the short walk was quite stunning!

Three Months in Brazil

Three Months in Brazil. Sunday, December 13, 2009. He was drop-dead gorgeous and incredibly sexy in the way he carried himself. I was surprised when he asked me out. When he kissed me on the dance floor it was like a scene in a bad romantic comedy - I forgot about my mojito and slowly spilled the entire contents on the floor. I knew I was signing up for trouble since I wasn't staying, and I didn't care. It was worth it. I still keep in touch with a few friends from Brazil. Luana, Bibiana, Ricardo&#46...

3 months in England - Tandy Graham/photos by John Graham

3 months in England - Tandy Graham/photos by John Graham. Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Last day in London - first day home! When I left you last, we were on our way out the door for our last day in London. Ellen and Philip had already left to go to the Victoria and Albert Museum to see the exhibit on quilting that I told her about when I went in June sometime - or was it May? I'll have to read my own blogs to figure that one out! Got home and finished packing. I had asked Ellen and Philip to bring one o...

3 Months in Ghana

3 Months in Ghana. Thursday, January 14, 2010. 5:35PM, on a Thursday. I'll just share two more experiences before I quit for the day. I hope you have all enjoyed the chronicles of my time in Ghana. I am going to save final thoughts and reflections on my experience for when I am home and have had time to digest everything. Thank you to everyone who has supported me. Despite all the challenges and frustrations, every minute has been worth the struggle. Tuesday, January 12, 2010. 10:53AM, on a Tuesday.
