A Different Piece of Sky. Diaries of a Winnipeg Girl Abroad. Friday Confessions, v. 10. It’s Friday again! Maybe the weather has something to do with it, but this last week or so has been a good one! Despite the fact that I’ve come down with another cold, I’ve been really enjoying my time spent with the kids, my trips to the city, running, and even all the boring in-between stuff. Here’s a little glimpse of what’s been going on in my neck of the woods, via some confessions. One Big Awko Taco. I told an a...

A Different Piece of Sky. Diaries of a Winnipeg Girl Abroad. Au Pair in The Netherlands: A Day in the Life. Bikes and canals and boats, oh my! I find speaking in general terms about being an au pair extremely difficult. As I’ve learnt in my second stint as an au pair, experiences can vary widely and it can be hard — if not impossible — to speak in absolutes about the general experience. 8212; Finally crawl out of bed and climb down from my loft using the stairs of death (see here. The excitement of seeing my family (side note: I successfully surprised my parents — they thought I was back a day later than I actually was), friends, and having a room to myself again was only slightly diminished by my surprisingly awful jet lag. I was back to normal in about a week, and that’s when I started (already? Can I get a “Hallelujah! Nov 16, 2015 at 7:30pm PST.

Travel, wellness, happiness. An Evening Walk through the Heart of Rome. Tuesday, November 25, 2014. Ode to Rick Steves. Rick Steves. I love you. Even though you are corny sometimes and basically only write for Americans. But I still love you and thank you for your excellent Heart of Rome Walk and for suggesting to take it at night. It was lovely. Ok sorry, had to get that out there! The pillars are from an Egyptian temple and supposedly are single pieces of stone. No pictures of these unfortunately but t...
Lu-Gerda's Travels: The Queen Street Synagogue, Oudtshoorn
http://lugerda.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-queen-street-synagogue-oudtshoorn.html
Thursday, July 9, 2015. The Queen Street Synagogue, Oudtshoorn. On our day trip to Oudshoorn we walk pass a beautiful stone building in Baron van Rheede Street. The gate was open and we decided to take a closer look. We walk around the building to the other side and found that this was a Synagogue. The first Hewbrew school in South Africa was established in Oudtshoorn in 1904. Part of the building complex includes the school building. The Queen Street Synagogue. Der Englishe Shul –. Is still in use today.

Foot Golf Saturday - Something Saturdays
http://www.somethingsaturdays.com/the-blog/foot-golf-saturday
This weekend we braved the drizzle and fog with a few friends for a round of Foot Golf at Clovelly Golf Course! All in all, it was a very accessible version of golf and a great way to spend a couple of hours outside. Due to the rain we were glad we only did 9 holes this time, but we would definitely return for a full 18 on a sunny day. Here are some more pictures of our round of Foot Golf:. Sounds like a lot of fun! It was - it's a great activity to do with a group of friends! In college, we used to play...
The Benefit Cosmetics Fat-Shaming Tweet #BoycottBenefit
http://relokate.eu/the-benefit-cosmetics-fat-shaming-tweet-boycottbenefit
Work & PR. Work & PR. The Benefit Cosmetics Fat-Shaming Tweet #BoycottBenefit. Yesterday Benefit Cosmetics did one of the most irresponsible and disappointing thing a brand geared towards young women can do, they sent out a fat-shaming tweet. I wasn’t aware of this tweet until a few hours later when I was taking part in a twitter chat, which had appropriately been given the topic of ‘body confidence’ because of the tweet, and immediately I was outraged. Since sending out, and then deleting, the fat-shami...
Lu-Gerda's Travels: Ostrich Feather Palaces
http://lugerda.blogspot.com/2015/07/ostrich-feather-palaces.html
Friday, July 17, 2015. Oudsthoorn became known world-wide due to the ostrich feather industry. From about 1860 it was high fashion for ladies to use ostrich feathers as decoration on their outfits. Between 1900 and 1914 the price was unbelievable high and the farmers and merchants in Oudtshoorn reaped the rewards. Here are a few of the ostrich palaces we found while walking in Oudtshoorn in Aug 2013:. Le Roux House ( 46 High Street). The house was built. For JHJ le Roux. It was designed by Char. Montague...
Lu-Gerda's Travels: PE : St Mary’s Cemetary
http://lugerda.blogspot.com/2012/07/pe-st-marys-cemetary.html
Sunday, July 29, 2012. PE : St Mary’s Cemetary. We spend the morning walking the Richmond Hill Trail in Port Elizabeth. We then returned to the guesthouse to relax for a while before going to the St Mary’s Cemetery. I learned about this old cemetery form the Port Elizabeth Daily Photo Blog. The cemetery was not in a very good condition when we visited. It was dirty with homeless people sleeping between the graves. We decided not to go in to deep. The old graves were neglected and vandalized. 8220;James C...
Lu-Gerda's Travels: Dutch Reformed Mother Church, Oudtshoorn
http://lugerda.blogspot.com/2015/05/dutch-reformed-mother-church-oudtshoorn.html
Monday, May 25, 2015. Dutch Reformed Mother Church, Oudtshoorn. One of our stops when we visited Oudtshoorn was the Dutch Reformed Mother Church on the corner of High Street and Church Street. Unfortunately the gates to the church grounds was locked and we could not take a closer look or visit the inside. The foundation stone was laid on 15 January 1861 but work was stopped in the 1860’s due to the lack of money and a problem due with the wall because the plans were read incorrectly. Two Feet, One World.
