A mile of runway will take you anywhere. Chronicles of my flying adventures along with random thoughts, stories, and things i want to share with the world. Thursday, January 1, 2015. Ringing in 2015 with an octet of airplanes. Clear, 25 degrees, wind 240 degrees at 15 knots gusting to 26. For the second year in a row, we took part in an old Stewart tradition - flying to breakfast on New Year's Day. Compared to last year. We both got new Halo. We were the eighth and final airplane to depart Stewart. Every...

A mile of runway will take you anywhere. Chronicles of my flying adventures along with random thoughts, stories, and things i want to share with the world. Thursday, May 7, 2015. First door-open Cubbin' of the year. Cub, 65 hp. Clear, 80 degrees, wind 120 degrees at 7 knots. It's been too long. Since I flew a Cub with the door wide open. Since I flew in general, really. She's relatively well-versed in Cubs and tailwheel procedures by now, so she sat in front at the controls while I hand-propped the 65 hp...

A mile of runway will take you anywhere. Chronicles of my flying adventures along with random thoughts, stories, and things i want to share with the world. Sunday, May 24, 2015. Crossing the century mark with friends and family in the Cub. Cub, 85 hp. Clear, 81 degrees, wind 180 degrees at 11 knots gusting to 17. I pointed out the low lake levels, circling around some of the old foundations that are usually submerged, as I've been doing quite often. And doesn't mind a steep turn or three - so we did the ...

A mile of runway will take you anywhere. Chronicles of my flying adventures along with random thoughts, stories, and things i want to share with the world. Friday, January 16, 2015. Closing out the work week with Cub practice. Cub, 65 hp. Clear, 39 degrees, wind 270 degrees at 2 knots. Ready to clear my head of everything but aviating. 65 hp model, I had to level off before turning crosswind; I was already at Stewart's pattern altitude of 800 feet AGL. Then I decided to try a falling leaf. After a po...
A mile of runway will take you anywhere.: Cub vs Champ
http://amileofrunway.blogspot.com/2015/03/cub-vs-champ.html
A mile of runway will take you anywhere. Chronicles of my flying adventures along with random thoughts, stories, and things i want to share with the world. Monday, March 2, 2015. As someone who has spent significant time behind the sticks of both Cubs and Champs, this video really piqued my interest. It's a great comparison of the two classic trainers, both of which qualify under the Light Sport. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). OH, United States. Steve [.] dilullo [@] gmail [.] com. THE FASCINATING WORLD OF AVIATION! Norwegian: from Fokker 50's to Dreamliners. The Norwegian "low cost" airline Norwegian, just announced that the airline has made the biggest order of airplanes in Europe ever. No less than 222 planes was the order, 122 from Boeing and 100 from Airbus. Boeing is to deliver 22 Boeing 737-800's and, when they're ready for delivery, 100 737-MAX8. The latter will be the next generation of the -800 model. Picture borrowed from http:/ www.airsalvage.co.uk/. The Dreamliner is t...

THE FASCINATING WORLD OF AVIATION! Constellation - flaming take off! Photo: Mike Lehmann.). Some airliners came and went without much notice. Not so with the The Constellation, or Connie as it was nicknamed. This airplane with its unique, sleek lines became a familiar sight in airports all over the world, and represented an era in air travel. This was before jet engines became the preferred propulsion of larger airplanes, and the radial engines was a sight to behold on take off. What do you think? Piper ...
The Flying Shrink: August 2014
http://flying-shrink.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 12, 2014. Summer Adentures in a "New" Arrow. In late July, the family and I took another pilgrimage to Pennsylvania in our club's "new" Arrow-III. What an adventure. Will this Damn Thing Ever Be Ready? The Checkout and Break-in. After returning to DuPage, I dropped Brad off and took off for a VFR flight down to Decatur (KDEC) to burn off the remaining break-in time. I confess to appreciating free flight time. I worked my way between rain showers to stay comfortably VFR the entire ...I lev...

TJ's Flying Adventures: Bucket List
http://www.tjflyingadventures.com/p/50-state-quest.html
I am a firm believer in setting goals and tracking progress towards them. In fact, I think every pilot should have a bucket list. Here is mine:. Personally land in all 50 states. When I started flying, I casually thought about flying to lots of different places. Then in 2010, I decided it was time to start getting serious about it. I set a goal of personally landing in all 50 states. While I thought it would take me over 5 years, in reality it ended up being less than 2 years! But I am certainly NOT done.

Saturday, May 11, 2013. Formation Training video Part 2. I finally found time to finish the part 2 video on the Formation Flight Training. Actually, I was on a Newark to Hong Kong flight that was 15.5 hours and I had already finished my email dinner a movie and still wasn't sleepy. So I finished this video . Flying Dutchman: Icewater Mansion
http://studentaviator.blogspot.com/2011/09/icewater-mansion.html
Sunday, September 18, 2011. Jake helps with the preflight. Gotta make sure the altimeter is set correctly. Just like riding in the car. Sky Harbor is the bare patch in the middle of the narrow strip. Later my wife mentioned she was nervous because the runway looked so short. It's actually 3000 feet long but with water on both sides, it's a much different sight picture than what she's used to. My son Jake simply played his leapster in the back seat the whole trip. I took that as a compliment. A mile of ru...
Flying Dutchman: November 2010
http://studentaviator.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 7, 2010. River flying and a new passenger. It was a beautiful day to fly so that's what I did. I arranged for a friend and his 7 year old son to meet me at a small regional airport 20 minutes from my home base of Crystal Airport. One cool thing we saw was a Republic RC-3 SeaBee airplane right in front of us on the taxiway. I guess that was also a first.I've never seen one in person before. We landed uneventfully and my passenger disembarked. I then flew back to Crystal. As I was ...

A Mile of Clean Sand — A Blog of Self-Undoing
A Mile of Clean Sand. There is no use in asking why. 16 years, 1 day. I had a reading with a holistic wellness specialist the other day. We talked about chakras and my past and grief. I wonder what you would think about this if you were still alive. You would be supportive of whatever path I'm on, no doubt, but would you roll your eyes at me in secret? Would we have gotten to that point, where we're rolling our eyes like an old married couple? Do you have any idea how much it pains me? I hold it true.

A Mile or More in My [Running] Shoes
A Mile or More in My [Running] Shoes. Chronicling my continued growth as a runner, my second round of the NYRR 9 1 for gauranteed entry to the 2015 NYC Marathon, my foray into nursing school, and the stuff called life that happens in between. It’s days like today that I miss living in New York City. Taken on September 7th, 2011 from the base of the Tribute In Light. The Root Beer Store. When I get out of bed and I don’t want to do my long run, I make sure to put on sunscreen. Because I won’t get back in.
