Sailing the Great Loop. Tuesday, June 17, 2014. On Saturday, June 7, we headed on up the Pasquotank River toward the Dismal Swamp Canal. The upper part of the river and Turner's Cut (which connects the river to the canal) are beautiful, but they are just preparing you for the Dismal Swamp Canal. I'm going to copy what Randy wrote in our sailing journal (Jonathan, Justin and Tanner: we are. God's creation is spectacular! Every once in awhile you catch the sweet aroma of flowers. What a joy! We stayed put ...

Sailing the Great Loop: July 2014

http://asbilladventure.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Sailing the Great Loop. Monday, July 7, 2014. When I last posted on this blog, we were sitting in Annapolis with an engine that wouldn't start. As it turned out, the new starter that Randy put on was defective. After checking and double checking everything, he figured it had to be that. So the marina got in another starter and Randy installed it, and "bingo" it started right up! That day of motoring was our last day on the Chesapeake. We anchored in a little bay just into the Elk River. We anchored near ...

Brokaw Tidbits: Fall- Winter Catch Up

http://brokawtidbits.blogspot.com/2015/04/fall-winter-catch-up-part-1.html

Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Fall- Winter Catch Up. Well, I've totally neglected this blog and have a lot to catch up on. I considered ditching the whole thing, but I really like having a place where I can look back and remember trips, events, etc. So this post is just a photo dump from fall and winter '14-15. Titus helping with a t-shirt rag quilt that I made for a friend's son. Quilt pieces laid out. Titus at Mom's house. Christmas at Mom's house. New washer and dryer- happy 13th anniversary to us!

Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Guadalupe River State Park. Last week, Josh and I took off 3 days and headed down to the Guadalupe River. We like to avoid the weekend crowds, and this turned out to be a great trip! We stayed at Guadalupe River State Park at the perfect little campsite- #45. We tried out a new portable air conditioner for our tent and even used air mattresses for the first time. I think we're getting old! Then we rested in our cool tent until around 7:30pm when we decided to cook dinner. On our...

Brokaw Tidbits: October 2014

http://brokawtidbits.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 21, 2014. We headed to Lost Maples State Natural Area for fall break this year. We spent the first night in the main campground and then did a little backpacking to reach our site for the next night. We were a little early for the colorful leaves, but it was still really nice and the weather was perfect. Lost Maples State Natural Area. Can you spot those 2 tiny water specks in the picture? That's where we ended up camping (after a steep descent! The boys resting after our hike.

Monday, October 21, 2013. Josh and I don't usually participate in much during homecoming weekend. In fact, we usually avoid campus altogether because it is so crazy! Titus with some of our students. Enjoying the parade with my "Chemistry Lab Lab." Titus was a huge hit, and most. Of the people understood what his lab coat meant :). ACU's Big Purple Marching Band. Here come the Wildcats! Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Winter continued. Snow and skiing! Playing frisbee in the snow- Titus was so happy! Over spring break, Josh and I joined the church group at Ski Cooper for our first downhill ski experience. We also did a little cross country skiing while we were there. Group lunch break- my brother joined us too! Not a bad view! Chairlift dismount with my brother. Josh and I never fell getting off the lift! Jim and Josh on the lift. Me and my brother. Brokaw Tidbits: September 2014

http://brokawtidbits.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 8, 2014. Washington Trip, Part 4- Traveling Home. We had a couple nice nights of camping before returning to TX. We kept things very simple and stayed in primitive campgrounds without water or electricity. I'm pretty proud of the fact that we only spent $40 total for lodging during our 18-day trip. Our first stop on the trek back from Washington was in southern Idaho. Milner Historic Recreation Area- along the Snake River. What does it mean if the labrador sees his shadow? Titus had to ...

Wednesday, May 15, 2013. 2013 Garden, Part 2- Surviving the Cold and Making Cute Garden Markers. Well, the new ground cover and watering system seem to be working well so far. The plants didn't seem to grow much at first, but now they are taking off! We had one more cold night we had to get through. We covered some rows with extra ground cloth and tarps, and we covered some individual plants with buckets. Of course it didn't get as cold as we expected, but better safe than sorry! Thursday, July 10, 2014. Lake Brownwood State Park. The week of July 4th, but before the crazy weekend rush, we spent a few days camping at Lake Brownwood State Park. Neither of us had been there before, so it was fun to explore a new lake. We brought along Titus' tent so he could escape from the ants and flies. He did not like to be zipped up inside, so he made sure to lie down in a way that would prevent the door from being closed :). Of course he slept in our tent at night. Titus checking out the bass.

the asbills | so you say "empty nesters"?

So you say empty nesters? The trip that started it all. So the final day of chapter four, the ride from Lubbock to Rockwall. Started the day in the usual way, coffee, gas, sunscreen, sightseeing… ok so the sightseeing part may have been over played. After a quick stop to see the new 4OUR complex, seems to be a TopGolf competitor, I was onto 19. Street east and headed home. Leaving town I believe I counted 3.7 million Prairie dogs along east 19. Ok so on with the ride, 83 south at Guthrie, then 380 east.

My Personal Experience - Home

The question is not, 'Can they reason? Nor, 'Can they talk? But rather, 'Can they suffer? Look into the soulful eyes of Freeway, Gracie, Nellie, and Mojave and they will tell you a story. Gracie was turned into a high kill shelter as a stray and was scheduled to be euthanized because she had kennel cough. Lucky Dog Rescue stepped in and took Gracie into their custody. She is a charming dog who only needs love and a forever home. Project by: Kelly Asbill. Create a free website.
