The War of 1812 at the Georgia Archives. Last weekend I attended a symposium on the War of 1812 hosted at the Georgia Archives, along with some of my fellow DAR ladies. First off, a shout out to the Friends of the Georgia Archives. One of the main reason I went was to find out how I could find out more about my ancestors and their participation in the war. The Archives staff gave an overview of the resources that they hold that would be of interest to genealogists. GA Military Affairs, 1775-1842. Thanks ...

Finding PawPaw's CCC Camp. A few years ago, I obtained my PawPaw's Civilian Conservation Corps records. They indicated that he, Thomas Craft, served at Camp SP-3 at Albemarle, North Carolina. The records gave me a lot of information about him, but not much about the location where he served. I've searched on and off for more information, but tonight I must have finally done something right. Camp scenes begin at the 3 minute mark. Saturday, May 31, 2014. Links to this post. But pins aren't the reason I de...

Don't Go Over the River, But Do Go Through the Woods. Earlier this month, my cousin posted a photo of a Craft cemetery to Facebook. I asked about it and, though it was out in the middle of the woods in Elbert County, Georgia, it was a different cemetery. However, he was able to ask around and he found a lady who knew where the grave was. He went out to find it, then took me out to see it today. Standing at the grave, you could see water through the trees on two sides. We trekked a bit further and fou...

Every Man a Quotation: The Greatest Reward
http://everymanaquotation.blogspot.com/2010/09/greatest-reward.html
Every Man a Quotation. Chronicling the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of a determined genealogist. Wednesday, September 15, 2010. Back in August I detailed my James McGregor brick wall. And so I'd hoped to strike gold (or at least some silver) by looking for Opal's survivors. As an added bonus, he had been doing his own genealogical research and mentioned having boxes of photos, records, and newspaper clippings that he'd be more than happy to send our way. Every Man a Quotation. Chronicling the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of a determined genealogist. Friday, October 15, 2010. Back in August I blogged about my James McGregor brick wall. Until now, nothing we'd found mentioned previous wives - or children. The will revealed both. There are many more documents and other interesting tidbits of information contained in the probate records, but this post has become quite long so I will share the rest in subsequent installments. Adding Ancestors to the Database. I joined the Daughters of the American Revolution for the genealogy - it is a lineage society, after all. In joining, I utilized their Ancestor Database. To find Revolutionary War Patriots to join through. I also pursued their Descendants Database. Which is made up of the other generations of ancestors that have been documented to reach the Patriots. For the most part, the DAR database is well documented (and if it's not, there's usually a notation). Links to this post.
