Barry's Bike Blog: April 2009
http://bicyclingforlouisville.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Bicycling politics, culture, and experiences in Kentucky and Southern Indiana, focusing on the greater Louisville area. Friday, April 3, 2009. Jackie is not satisfied, because we have the agreement only in an e-mail and not in a formal, signed legal document. I have every reason to believe that Kentucky Derby Festival will live up to its promise, and I laud them for acting so quickly to solve a problem that came to their attention only a month or two ago. Barry's Bike Blog: August 2009

Bicycling politics, culture, and experiences in Kentucky and Southern Indiana, focusing on the greater Louisville area. Monday, August 10, 2009. You play by the rules! On my regular commuting ride this morning, I turned right from the western end of Lexington Road onto Baxter Avenue which, after a block, merges into E. Jefferson Street. Approaching this intersection. You're using your turn signal - that's great! We shared friendly greetings and went on our respective ways when the light turned green.

Bicycling politics, culture, and experiences in Kentucky and Southern Indiana, focusing on the greater Louisville area. Thursday, July 31, 2008. Posted by Barry Z. Wednesday, July 30, 2008. The American Love Affair with the Bicycle. The people who probably know the US psyche best work in the advertising industry. Pop quiz: In what advertisement did you most recently see a person bicycling? We aren't going fast, or dripping sweat, or looking absorbed in athletic effort. Our favorite response came one ...
Barry's Bike Blog: Boulder, Louisville, and press coverage of crashes
http://bicyclingforlouisville.blogspot.com/2009/09/boulder-louisville-and-press-coverage.html
Bicycling politics, culture, and experiences in Kentucky and Southern Indiana, focusing on the greater Louisville area. Friday, September 25, 2009. Boulder, Louisville, and press coverage of crashes. While honoring Louisville at the Bronze level. Getting away from the inter-city comparison, I have a wish list for reporters who cover traffic crashes. I will focus on crashes involving bicyclists, but this list probably applies to other crashes as well. The Google Street View of the scene. Lincoln Trail Bou...

bikeolounger's meandering thoughts: Lane Diets proposed.
http://bikeolounger.blogspot.com/2014/04/lane-diets-proposed.html
Thoughts on ranging topics- cycling, poly-ticks, whatever comes to mind that I feel like sharing. I have a great idea! Let's try to convince more people to use bicycles by showing them that the local government considers cycling to be so dangerous as to need its own skinny corridors. To the side of regular travel lanes! Then make helmets mandatory, because we all know that helmets prevent crashes! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). bikeolounger's meandering thoughts: April 2015
http://bikeolounger.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Thoughts on ranging topics- cycling, poly-ticks, whatever comes to mind that I feel like sharing. Cycling Savvy classes are scheduled! With this post, I am ending what has probably been the second-longest period of not making blog posts. The longest period ended when I started typing this blog five or six years ago. Much of my social commentary has taken place on that book of faces, as the thoughts are more ephemeral and of narrower focus (and value) than what would justify a blog post. Links to this post.

Where to your benefit is a valet bicycle parking service put on by Bicycling for Louisville. These folks rock, and they need more volunteers at the valet station. Read more about it, in this message from Barry. At Bicycling for Louisville. Thunder Over Louisville will take place this Saturday! A shady place to sit and cold water or soft drinks.
bikeolounger's meandering thoughts: January 2015
http://bikeolounger.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Thoughts on ranging topics- cycling, poly-ticks, whatever comes to mind that I feel like sharing. No, thank you. I want safer roads. I've not seen much traffic on local blogs regarding the Lexington Road Corridor proposals ( http:/ louisvilleky.gov/government/advanced-planning/lexington-road-corridor-transportation-plan. Although there has been some (notably Broken Sidewalk. S bereft-of-critical thinking post cheering for. These "fixes" do one thing well: Add complexity that leads to poor compliance and ...
bikeolounger's meandering thoughts: 600th post
http://bikeolounger.blogspot.com/2014/03/600th-post.html
Thoughts on ranging topics- cycling, poly-ticks, whatever comes to mind that I feel like sharing. It's amusing to me that this, my six-hundredth post, comes at a time when I have something far more significant that a blog post count to discuss. I've mentioned previously that I had a part-time job at a big retailer, and that the job involved (among other things) wearing an orange apron. I have left that job. Thursday, the 27th, was my last day there. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My Car-Free Experie...
bikeolounger's meandering thoughts: Seasonal milestone

Thoughts on ranging topics- cycling, poly-ticks, whatever comes to mind that I feel like sharing. It's been a while since I celebrated seasonal milestones. Today's milestone: Third time this season that I will have ridden to work wearing short pants instead of jeans. Cycling Savvy class is two weeks away! Preparations are in full swing! bikeolounger's meandering thoughts: Stupid motorist tricks
http://bikeolounger.blogspot.com/2014/08/stupid-motorist-tricks.html
Thoughts on ranging topics- cycling, poly-ticks, whatever comes to mind that I feel like sharing. Looking at prior posts, I realize that it's been almost two months since I posted here. I sometimes wonder whether I need to continue posting, as I never get any feedback anymore. My lane position was what you'd expect from a CSI on a two-lane street: left of center, but not quite in the left tire track, so I had plenty of shy room in case he decided to cut his return to our lane short on me. She Rides a Bike.
bikeolounger's meandering thoughts: Deep unsettling anger
http://bikeolounger.blogspot.com/2014/10/deep-unsettling-anger.html
Thoughts on ranging topics- cycling, poly-ticks, whatever comes to mind that I feel like sharing. It's taking me a long time to. Type this. I keep needing to storm away and let off some steam. The issues my friend Cherokee has before her have consumed a LOT of my mental and emotional energy for the last six months. There is much wrong in how she is being treated by the law enforcement community and the Jessamine County Attorney's office. I appeared in court as an expert witness several weeks ago. I w...
bikeolounger's meandering thoughts: May is almost over, already?!?
http://bikeolounger.blogspot.com/2014/05/may-is-almost-over-already.html
Thoughts on ranging topics- cycling, poly-ticks, whatever comes to mind that I feel like sharing. May is almost over, already? Today is Memorial Day, a day set aside to remember those who lost their lives while protecting our country in some form or fashion. I don't get to make those decisions, though. I vote for candidates who feel similarly when I can, but too often, I'm also voting more against a candidate with even larger problems. It was actually fun, though, to get out with Dave and Diane and Asher...

The fight against ovarian cancer requires a multi-level approach. This approach should include primary physician care training, sound medical invention, preventive and treatment behavior programs in nutrition and physical activity that are research based. In addition, funding support for this disease needs a strong national collaboration across many medical and fund raising cancer organizations. Photograph by Kay Broeder.
