http://birdbrainedstories.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 25, 2005. Yesterday morning, after arising at the surreal hour of 4am, I was privileged to see a bird that at one point numbered 15 in the world. The experience is one about which I've dreamed, to the point it made my list of 43 things to do. Yesterday, I got to watch the flight training of juvenile Whooping Cranes. I have been jealous of Ural ever since, but after yesterday, my green-eyed monster has been sufficiently fed. We were taken through an oak savannah restoration area that was ...

Bird brained stories!: November 2005
http://birdbrainedstories.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, November 26, 2005. Dreams of boreal species. Words about farmers markets, gardening, place, and whatever else seems relevant to my little life now being lived in the metropolis of Tokyo. Monday, June 29, 2015. Kappa: A Little Zip in Your Summer Step via the Cucumber. Cucumbers (kyuuri) are just coming into season. Most gardeners and farmers train them along on trellises. Words about farmers markets, gardening, place, and whatever else seems relevant to my little life now being lived in the metropolis of Tokyo. Monday, July 20, 2015. The Case of the Extra Eggplant. The mysterious eggplant in the old potato bed. Had the new soba sprouted? Would I find another giant zucchini or cucumber. How was the popcorn. My husband, though, scurried down once or twice during a break in the rain to get greens for our salads. One day he took photos. "How's the popcorn? I asked my husband.
