Yahoo is many things to many people, but it only needs to be one thing A viable alternative to Google: Ads, Search, Gmail. The rest is noise. I put ads first, before search, because I think it’s an area where Yahoo! Marissa, good luck. I’m rooting for you. We all are.

Per veritatem vis is writing on the Svbtle. July 26, 2012. This past weekend I ended my TechCrunch guest post about disruption in the security space. With these words: But change is coming, and it’s going to be ugly for the old guard. I didn’t know how fast it would start, or how ugly it would be. It’s starting now, and it’s uglier than I imagined. I wish Symantec good luck. They will need it. Every major security company today will cease to exist or be relevant in the next 3-5 years.

Per veritatem vis is writing on the Svbtle. July 3, 2012. Tear down the building just to pass through the door. There are some songs which become personal anthems for me. Some songs come and go as my views and tastes change, but a small few stand the test of time. One of them is Bad Religion’s Do what you want. It’s been a favorite since I first heard it in the mid 90s when I was in junior high. It’s a hard-hitting 60 seconds of fury:. Hey do what you want, but don’t do it around me.

Per veritatem vis is writing on the Svbtle. January 27, 2013. Recently, there’s been a subtle shift in the way I’ve been receiving attachments from people at work that has eroded a fundamental annoyance I’ve always had with email attachments. That is, the proliferation of stale, disparate and potentially-widely distributed copies of files spiraling out of my control. This all started with our transition to Google Apps for email. That change brought with it access to this new thing called Google Drive.

Friday, March 27, 2009. Use Cygwin to avoid writing BAT files and Shell Scripts. One of the problems caused with Java's "Write Once, Run Anywhere" paradigm is the complex set of arguments that usually need to be passed to the JVM to start your application. What's the solution to this? Usually, it's BAT files and/or Shell Scripts. The BAT file for Windows environments and the Shell Script for *nix. Let's have a look:. Echo David Nelson's Shell Script Wrapper. Echo Looking for % n0.sh. Sh % n0.sh %*.

Welcome to my world. Sunday, October 5, 2014. Invested the time and money to prepare to have excess resources for you and your family. If you try to take resources from those who have prepared, you will no doubt encounter deadly resistance. Remember the childhood fable of the ant and the grasshopper. This is a very real threat to which we have virtually no counter. On the natural / CME front, the Carrington Event. For example, for food, you hopefully. The same goes for water- what happens when utility wa...

However, in a virtual machine it is typical for device not to report any EDID information at all. Luckily, it is still possible to provide Windows with an EDID override in the registry. The EDID information of any Retina Class display will work just fine. 1 Dump the raw EDID file, from Mac OS X :. 2 Install MonInfo to your Windows VM:.

Sauve qui peut! – David A. Black's blog, reborn
David A. Black's blog, reborn. Some thoughts on code review. Github has added some new features to pull requests that make for a richer code review cycle. To commemorate this, I thought I’d share some words about code review–not the Github stuff specifically (I’m still exploring! But the process in general. Code review can also make solo coding a viable part of the development process. I consider it absolutely essential. Do your code reviewing alone. Be fair and flexible about style. David A. Christensen. Thoughts, quotes, and inspiration to uplift and encourage the human soul. Try not to become a person of success but rather try to become a person of value.". For my email address. It’s one thing to create a system that does what you designed it to do. But the most interesting design problems center around unexpected circumstances. How does your system respond to environmental stress (heat, vibration, radiation, resource depletion, shock forces, high pressure, low pressure, corrosive substances, etc.) or deliberate attacks? How does the system as a whole behave if subsystems fail? These are the questions that separate good engineering from great engineering.
