CMNS1290Mellissa: Week # 4 chapter 9 + supplementary
http://cmns1290mellissa.blogspot.com/2009/08/cmns1290-week-4-chapter-9-supplementary.html
Monday, August 17, 2009. Week # 4 chapter 9 supplementary. I think the two key points to remember from chapter 9 were:. 1 – Media relations is the most common and weighty element of PR and is growing in terms of the type of mediums used. 2 – Regardless of your strategy or type of media you are dealing with in order to be effective media relations still needs to be efficient, informed, ethical and professional. Headlines such as ” Australia Braces for more Swine flu deaths” (. Lost during the crisis.

Wednesday, September 2, 2009. Week # 5 Chapter 5. I found this weeks reading to be of great interest. It has always intrigued me as to how ethics is actually measured and defined considering the vast range of cultures and traditions in society. The main key point I drew from the readings is that What is ethical to some may not be ethical to others. Which is based on telling the truth and keeping promises regardless of consequences. Do you want to benefit the most people? What type of values will I endeav...

CMNS1290Mellissa: Week 3 - Chapter 7
http://cmns1290mellissa.blogspot.com/2009/08/week-3-chapter-7.html
Tuesday, August 11, 2009. Week 3 - Chapter 7. Welcome - a week late but better late than never! I actually should be welcoming myself to the foreign land of blogging as I am of the era where you were a nerd if you did computer studies at school and have only recently become a member of stalkbook. All that aside I did extract two key points from Chapter 7. 1 Strategy and planning are pivotal. In successful Public Relations. 2 "Aim to be respected and understood, not loved" Schmertz. Is all about achieving.
CMNS1290Mellissa: Week # 8 Chapter 6 & 10
http://cmns1290mellissa.blogspot.com/2009/10/week-8-chapter-6-10.html
Thursday, October 15, 2009. Week # 8 Chapter 6 and 10. I particularly learned a lot in this chapter. One key point I drew from the chapter is that firms apply Key Performance Indicators to PR as they are focused. I was always of the belief that PR was an intuitive practice however I learned that strategies and the results can be measured to ascertain its effectiveness. Is the maker or breaker of an event! I thought the section on sponsorship proposal provided useful information on how to target potential...

Monday, August 31, 2009. Week 6 - Communities and Public Relations. Chapter 13 by Kate Fitch. This chapter I think really reflect on what exactly happening now a days in the community. Many organisations involving the community to participate in their PR campaign especially the government and health and wellbeing organisations. It's a simple chapter but I guess I was too occupied preparing for my debate I wasn't concentrating enough. After reading the chapter twice, it becoming clearer. Week 5 - Ethics.

Absharina's PR Blog: Week 7 - Tactics & PR in Business
http://cmns1290absharina.blogspot.com/2009/09/week-7-tactics-pr-in-business.html
Monday, September 7, 2009. Week 7 - Tactics and PR in Business. Chapter 8 by Marian Hudson. As to what I remember in the previous reading n strategy and planning, tactics are the actions to achieve the objectives and sometime one tactic can be use in to two objectives. This week's reading I find it is the most interesting one, so far. Many practitioners have used good media relations tactics in their successful PR campaign. Tactics divided in to two majors:. Controlled - such as advertising, brochures.

Tuesday, August 4, 2009. Week 2 - PR History and Theory. Chapter 1 by Jane Johnston, Clara Zawawi and Jeff Brand. Chapter 2 by Clara Zawawi. Before I took this course, my understanding of Public Relations (PR) was about a company or a person's reputation in the public eye. And the role of a PR person is to be responsible for controlling that image, so that the public will always see the positive side. But after I finished this weeks reading, I understand that it is actually a lot more than that.

Absharina's PR Blog: Week 4 - Media Relations
http://cmns1290absharina.blogspot.com/2009/08/week-4.html
Tuesday, August 18, 2009. Week 4 - Media Relations. A crisis of epidemic proportions: What communication lessons can practitioners learn from the Singapore SARS crisis? Issuing media releases is a PR role to make sure the media get news materials. These media releases have to be accurate in answering six basic news questions: Who? Otherwise it'll look uninteresting and ends up in the bin or shame file of newsroom. So it is important for PR people to acknowledge themselves with PR writing skills.

Tuesday, August 25, 2009. Week 5 - Ethics. Chapter 5 by Lelde McCoy. Ethics, such a difficult word to describe. However the text book put a simplified term:. Standard of integrity. Doing the right thing.". Situation - The current situation that makes you have to decide. Values - Involving fairness, honesty, loyalty and advocacy. Monday, October 5, 2009. The Tight-Rope of PR. Risk = Walking a tight-rope. Issues = A lack of balance. Crisis = Falling fifty feet to your doom. Recovery = Accepting medical help. At least this is what these terms refer to if my brother, the semi-professional, adrenalin addicted; teenage wrestler ever gets the stupid idea to try tight-rope walking without any safety harnesses. In public relations the effects are somewhat less extravagant but no less important to understand. Chapter 11 ‘Risk, issue...

Thursday, March 12, 2009. The two main points to remember from this week's readings are:. A positive relationship between the third sector and P.R contribute to the quality of life in a risk society. Traditional organizations and the third sector, share bad history for each other and therefore pose several dangerous implications if a P.R practitioner working for an organization wants to establish a relationship with the third sector. Don't worry be happy. Thursday, March 12, 2009. Issues, crisis and PR for not-for-profit organisation. The two key points that I have picked up for this week's readings are:. Issue and crisis occurs and are managed differently. If mishandled or ignored, issue will lead to a crisis. There are situations where an issue is well addressed and it helps lighten the negative impact of a crisis. In a way, issue and crisis are linked. A little background of the case:. Although Shell did try to prevent and avoid a...

Thursday, October 15, 2009. Week # 9 Public Relations Program. This reading gives an excellent outline for how to create a PR program. I found the flow charts very straightforward and will provide an excellent frame work from which to base my PR plan project around. Week # 8 Chapter 6 and 10. I particularly learned a lot in this chapter. One key point I drew from the chapter is that firms apply Key Performance Indicators to PR as they are focused. Saturday, September 22, 2007. I think the key points to remember from this week's readings were that research is undertaken throughout all the phases of public relations practice. Research in public realtions must be done in three different stages, the first being. Which is done before formulating public relations activites and involves research into your organisation, your situation, the target publics, your proposed messages, and strategies. The next focus of research is. The readings made me think mor...

Tuesday, March 16, 2010. Media Releases and PR in Asia. As a Public Relations Practitioner, one has to have a certain set of skills. Of these skills, one such skill is writing a media release. A media release is a very useful tool for practitioners as. 1 It saves time for you and the reporter. 2 It helps the reporter get the facts right. 3 It may be used for word in local and trade media if written in the right style. 5 You can clear it with your organisation. 6 You have a copy of what was issued. The im...
CMNS 1290 Intro to PR
CMNS 1290 Intro to PR. Monday, March 16, 2009. Do Third Sector organisations still need this (risk, issues, crisis and recovery) management? I think two key points to my learning for this week’s readings are. Unlike businesses that need this intangible asset goodwill for emergency cases especially when the company’s reputation is at stake. Is there then still a need for crisis management and the like for third sector? Or do they just believe wholeheartedly without a doubt that they are clean with their d...
