Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Reading Week 9- A typical public relations program – Candy Tymson. This reading has been very insightful to me. The way a public relation campaign is carried out is summarized in four processes:- 1. Set objectives, 2. Plan and budget, 3.Implementation program and 4.Evaluation. As simple as these processes are they carry out the essentials of a campaign and when explored are actually more complex than they appear. Then there is the issue of campaigns in a public relations prog...

Monday, September 7, 2009. Week 7 - Tactics and PR in Business. Chapter 8 by Marian Hudson. As to what I remember in the previous reading n strategy and planning, tactics are the actions to achieve the objectives and sometime one tactic can be use in to two objectives. This week's reading I find it is the most interesting one, so far. Many practitioners have used good media relations tactics in their successful PR campaign. Tactics divided in to two majors:. Controlled - such as advertising, brochures.

Tuesday, August 4, 2009. Week 2 - PR History and Theory. Chapter 1 by Jane Johnston, Clara Zawawi and Jeff Brand. Chapter 2 by Clara Zawawi. Before I took this course, my understanding of Public Relations (PR) was about a company or a person's reputation in the public eye. And the role of a PR person is to be responsible for controlling that image, so that the public will always see the positive side. But after I finished this weeks reading, I understand that it is actually a lot more than that.

Tuesday, August 18, 2009. Week 4 - Media Relations. A crisis of epidemic proportions: What communication lessons can practitioners learn from the Singapore SARS crisis? Issuing media releases is a PR role to make sure the media get news materials. These media releases have to be accurate in answering six basic news questions: Who? Otherwise it'll look uninteresting and ends up in the bin or shame file of newsroom. So it is important for PR people to acknowledge themselves with PR writing skills.

CMNS 1290 Intro to PR
CMNS 1290 Intro to PR. Monday, March 16, 2009. Do Third Sector organisations still need this (risk, issues, crisis and recovery) management? I think two key points to my learning for this week’s readings are. Unlike businesses that need this intangible asset goodwill for emergency cases especially when the company’s reputation is at stake. Is there then still a need for crisis management and the like for third sector? Or do they just believe wholeheartedly without a doubt that they are clean with their d...

Monday, October 12, 2009. This weeks readings suggest that "a comprehensive understanding of risk, issues, crisis and recovery is an essential characteristic for twenty-first century public relations professionals" (Nicholss 299). A key point of the reading was the suggestion that there is always risks and uncertainty within the industry and it is important to manage these risks by making informed decisions and building on past experiences. CMNS 1290 Stacey Mei. Thursday, March 19, 2009. Crisis management and 3rd sector PR. The need to plan ahead is made obvious in the area of crisis and issues management. Crisis's occur unexpectedly. But just because they are unexpected does not mean the PR department is not prepared. Preparation is achieved through planning. One thing I see is that with successful planning, a crisis/issue can become an opportunity for the company to show its efficiency with dealing with problems. . But of course, it woul...

Monday, October 12, 2009. Reading Week 10 - Risk, Issues, Crisis and Recovery and Public Relation in the Third Sector. Risk, Issues, Crisis and Recovery. In any business there are risks involved and the methods in which these risks can be dealt with. A risk is doing something forbidden whose outcome is unpredictable (at 299). Friday, March 20, 2009. Third Sector, Risk, Issues, Crisis and Recovery. I think the two key points for this week readings are:. Third sector creates a healthier society. PR practitioners should build relationship with them. I think the existence of the third sector creates a healthier society, since it operates largely with voluntary labour and a non-profit agenda. Is it better to have no crisis at all? But if there is no crisis there is no opportunity, isn’t it? Thursday, March 12, 2009. 2, The importa...

Just another WordPress.com site. The first day of class. September 15, 2011. We had an excellent first day of class. First, with all students reading in a round, I introduced the course outline (refer to above tab). This review will help us communicate about things like: Why is that sentence considered a fragment? Or Why is that sentence considered a run-on? CMNS 152 Res...

Blogger @ Cmns 253. Saturday, November 27, 2004. My last words on weblog. At first, I assumed that weblog is only for personal use. I thought that weblog is a space where people capture their personal lives, thoughts and comments in online diaries. However, my assumption was wrong. I clearly misunderstand, or perhaps underestimate the usage of weblog. There’re alternative ways commercial and political usage. A)political, social and cultural issues. B)impacts of current issues.
