Creating Data Files | Computing with Data

https://computingwithdata.wordpress.com/2015/09/23/creating-data-files

September 23, 2015. My class just got some experience creating datafiles in cvs format. Here is some advice based on my observations looking at these files. Don’t forget to start with a header line. With the variable names separated with commas. It is helpful to use relative short names for variables. Don’t put commas in data. Although we’re used to representing large numbers (say population sizes) using commas. Don’t forget to document your data. Here is some file editing tips. Use the gsub function.

Sunday, August 31, 2008. Fax over IP, FOIP and IP Faxing being sent to a machine near you. Years ago the standard telephone line (POTS or Plain Old Telephone Service) was all we knew. It worked for local and long distance. It also worked great for analog devices such as modems and fax machines. These devices send a high pitched, modulating squeal and are received on the other end. This modulating squeal is deciphered on the other end and turned into usable data or a fax. 1 A T38 device send to a T.38...

Computing within Limits: Visions of computing beyond Moore’s law. An LIMITS workshop at ICT4S 2016. Doesn’t work out and we instead have to think about. Tomlinson et al. 2012)? What if we will come up against various ecological, material, energetic, and/or societal limits (c.f. Thursday, 17 January 2008. Reading and writing ntfs on Mac OS X. An external hard drive always comes in handy. Most of the time, such hard drives are formatted with the FAT32 filesystem. Most of the time that works well. A big advantage is that all operating systems can read and write such a filesystem. A big disadvantage is the fact that the maximum file size is 4 GiB. That makes storing big DVD images on a FAT32 drive troublesome. 160;and  NTFS-3G 1.1120-stable-catacombae.dmg. Tuesday, 15 January 2008.

Since I have no hood on this aquarium, sometime during the last couple of months a house fly flew/fell into the mineral oil tank and died. Now I ...
