Theater Part Two 2002. In Part Two, the blonde and brunette whisper into each other’s ear. The repeated loop allows the women to endlessly share secrets. The silence conceals their conversation from the viewer. The women’s behavior excludes and distances the viewer from their clique. Theater Part Three 2002.

Diana shpungin / nicole engelmann. Collaborative work: hand game 2002. Hand game, 2002. Still image from continuous loop video. Ultimate goal is to achieve an infinite level of coordination. The continuous loop allows the characters to perpetuate the rhythmic action eternally. The use of slow motion produces visual trails from the hands and a reverberating sound from the clapping. This aids in transforming the game into a haunting and monotonous fixation. BACK TO COLLABORATIVE WORK.

Diana shpungin / nicole engelmann. Collaborative work: routine 2002. Still images from continuous loop video. While the slow motion scenes are silent, the transitory moments are accentuated with sound. In the fast motion scenes the sound is revealed and the viewer/voyeur is suddenly jolted into another invented reality. The sound emphasizes the automatism and the mechanical nature of the movements. Diana shpungin / nicole engelmann. Colaborative work: spoon 2002. Still image from continuous loop video. In Spoon two women, one blonde and one brunette are face to face. Each in turn spoon-feeds the other. Playing on ideas of opposites and favorites, the brunette gets fed vanilla pudding while the blonde gets fed chocolate pudding.
