The musings of a TEFL-er in an unplugged world. And this Reflector is who? Delta – Experimental Practice. May 2, 2012. A – We can’t train them in the same way we expect them to teach. B – Why not? This little conversation shows a lot about the beliefs which underpin the two speakers’ attitudes to teacher training, does it not? Or because what we do as trainers doesn’t translate into the classroom? Surely it is better to introduce trainees to the idea that grammar is not the be-all and end-all of language...

Props, Supports and Prescriptions. | Unplugged Reflections

The musings of a TEFL-er in an unplugged world. And this Reflector is who? Delta – Experimental Practice. Props, Supports and Prescriptions. April 26, 2012. As teachers, as trainers, as people in this world, what are we to those around us? Are we there to guide? It’s a dangerous assumption to make that we, as educators, are here to mould those we work with into our own vision of what makes a good teacher or a perfect variety of English, or even the best type of learner. The musings of a TEFL-er in an unplugged world. And this Reflector is who? Delta – Experimental Practice. Each To Their Own. June 10, 2012. It’s fairly typical to have different levels of learner within language schools. Whether or not you agree with the thinking behind this, it is common in most contexts. Does this mean some trainees will miss out?

Dogme Action Research in Costa Rica. Class 12: The Scottish Accent: Easier Than American. Posted by Chris Ożóg. Asymp; Leave a comment. This class was all about accents. There’s a number of different examples of these floating about the class, given that Ben’s Canadian, I’m Scottish and the group are Costa Ricans. Such exposure surely can’t be a bad thing. But where are all the comparatives? They are closer to the border, they speak more Nicaraguan. A big difference [comparative form]. The first: write 5...

Dogme Action Research in Costa Rica. Class 17 and 18: Not with a whimper. Posted by Ben Naismith. Asymp; Leave a comment. It’s taken a while, but now that I’ve made it through my first week in Dubai, I finally have a chance to reflect on my final class with the Pura Vida Dogme group. I’m calling this one class 17 and 18 as it included a two-hour class followed by two hours conversation in English in the local cantina something I’ll sorely miss. Right from the get go. I felt like this part of the lesson w...
