Emily in the World....

Emily in the World. Thursday, July 28, 2016. We had some awesome 3 day weekends this past year and for one of them I was dying to go to Semuc Champey. This is a really beautiful river area near Lanquin, Guatemala. It can be tricky to get to because the roads are mostly dirt and twist and turn up and down mountains. During rainy season they are basically impassable. Mary and Claire in the pool. Once there, we first did the candle lit cave tour. I LOVED this! We walked through the pitch black water while h...

Emily in the World....: May 2015

http://emilyintheworld.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Emily in the World. Sunday, May 24, 2015. Bye bye to Sea Life Center and Back to Edinburgh. On my last day at Sea Life Center I did the seal training/feeding as I mentioned before and I was given a cute little mug and plush seal and bought myself a snazzy shark mug. (I use the shark mug everyday at school and the kids adore it! I also loved the Stirling heads exhibit. Once upon a time there used to be a glorious ceiling that was decorated with these enormous carved wooden head medallions. It coll...After...

Emily in the World. Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Land of the Scots and the Seals! I looooove Scotland.) So of course I signed up and bought my flight and packed and all that jazz. The hostel I stayed at was pretty cool, there was a large group of people that were volunteering there and they were very insular and not particularly welcoming to insiders (but more about them later). Typical rainy Oban day out the bus window. Before I get into my routine, lets go on a quick photo tour of the sanctuary! When I got...

Emily in the World....: August 2014

http://emilyintheworld.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Emily in the World. Monday, August 4, 2014. Family Trip to Belize! We made good friends with the swim up bartender, Gilbert. He even asked about us on a few days when we were out on excursions and not at our usual spots in the pool. The beach wasn't particularly good for swimming. There were Portuguese man-of-war jellyfish all over. Mom actually got stung by one and it left a big red welt over her wrist, that, to my knowledge still hasn't entirely gone away. They were still excavating in Cahal Pech.

Emily in the World. Sunday, October 13, 2013. On Saturday Jen, me, Maria Jose and her friend Tuve (I have no clue how to spell this girl's name! Breakfast in Antigua is particularly good and I loved the place we went in the morning. It was a restaurant and a plant nursery. This plant is called green jade. Look at the little bee flying into it! I got one of these real cute and cheap little succulent plants. Come and visit me! I now have two really good breakfast places to take you in Antigua! In order for...

Emily in the Real World | The "Real World" through the eyes of an ex-homeschooler.

Emily in the Real World. The Real World through the eyes of an ex-homeschooler. 8220;You Buyin’ What I’m Sellin’? July 12, 2014. So it’s officially summer, and I officially have been working in an actual store for two months. After weeks of folding clothes and working the register, I have discovered that I have a love/hate relationship with working in retail. I constantly feel like I’m harassing people. Most of the time I wish I could just let them look around, but there are times when I wish I...For exa...

emilyinthesmallcity | A fine WordPress.com site

A fine WordPress.com site. October 7, 2013. Some stars aligned so that my last weekend in Europe could be spent in Edinburgh, Scotland with two of my favorite university pals. The juxtaposition of a city’s rich history against modern developments is wonderfully displayed in Edinburgh. And my weekend was the perfect mix of exploring (on World Tourism Day no less) and catching up with girlfriends including a hike to catch a better glimpse of the city. Stories I need to tell. September 17, 2013. My travel c...

emilyintheworld | everything beautiful in its time

Everything beautiful in its time. About me and my blog. Photography, cards and arty stuff. What I write about. Sprout time: when I miss Mum the most. I thought that sprout time and choirs would be the hardest , said John, my brother. Yes, he’s right. This is the time I miss Mum the most. Christmas Eve, 3pm. The time I always made every effort to be with Mum. Dad would’ve dutifully found Radio 4 and we’d have checked and double-checked that the…. Continue reading →. My Etsy shop – finally! A Year in Japan in 100 Stories.

A Year in Japan in 100 Stories. Back in 2011 I went on one of the greatest adventures of my life. As part of my anthropology undergraduate I went to study in Tokyo for a year, I had never been to Japan before and had never been away from home for that long before either. I was expecting to be terrified, but at worst I was nervous. I don’d foresee there being much in the way of a definite order or structure to start with. I intend to experiment with a few things and see what works. But I hop...You are com...
