EMILY IN TOKYO: July 2015

http://www.emilyintokyo.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, 19 July 2015. And the vegetable patch can sometimes provide material like this brilliantly coloured chard. Sadly, my Garrya Eliptica is on its way out but I managed to get a couple more arrangements before the catkins all blow away. With white japonica in self made container. Wall arrangement with camelias. A birds' eye view of an arrangement I made using what's left of the strelitzia nicolai. With it I used some cotoneaster berries and a white carnation. Monstera Deliciosa and strelitzia reginae.

EMILY IN TOKYO: June 2015

http://www.emilyintokyo.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, 14 June 2015. It is with the greatest pleasure and pride that I announce the arrival of our third grandchild, Althea Karanikolopoulos, sister to Hermione. We are all besotted with her. Two little princesses to spoil! It has been a whole month since my last post and I apologize for that but I've had my hands full with grandparenting duties, an exhibit to set up and take down as well as coping with an injured shoulder. The glue is sprayed silver. With the addition of persimons. In the lounge room.

EMILY IN TOKYO: April 2015

http://www.emilyintokyo.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Monday, 13 April 2015. Yesterday was Orthodox Easter, which brings with it many traditions and celebrations such as coloured Easter eggs, 'tsoureki' (Easter Bread), midnight mass on Saturday, followed by 'mayiritsa' (offal soup). Then on Sunday the lamb on the spit together with enough food to feed a small third world country. This holiday has brought back memories of this time last year, when I celebrated Easter with my sister, brother-in-law, a niece and her fiancé in a Greek restaurant in Tokyo. Berri...

EMILY IN TOKYO: May 2015

http://www.emilyintokyo.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Monday, 11 May 2015. I'd like to start by congratulating Sandra Marker from NSW Sogetsu branch, who has just been awarded the Norman and Mary Sparnon scholarship. I'm very happy for her, and, knowing what awaits her, I'm also a little envious. My own garden provides me with plenty of autumnal material for ikebana with the most showy trees being the persimmon, gingko and the very large elms on either side of my back yard. Below are some examples of my autumnal arrangements. Dahlias, hydrangeas, vibernum.

EMILY IN TOKYO: October 2014

http://www.emilyintokyo.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, 26 October 2014. On the 15th October I had the pleasure of demonstrating for the Victorian Floral Art Assoc. Inc.'s AGM. I always enjoy demonstrating for this group because they make me feel very welcome and seem appreciative of my work. Also, because they are experienced floral artists themselves, they understand what's needed for a demonstration and they provide everything without my having to ask. I demonstrated seven arrangements and the ones that photographed best, I've included here. The Fl...

Emily in the World....

Emily in the World. Thursday, July 28, 2016. We had some awesome 3 day weekends this past year and for one of them I was dying to go to Semuc Champey. This is a really beautiful river area near Lanquin, Guatemala. It can be tricky to get to because the roads are mostly dirt and twist and turn up and down mountains. During rainy season they are basically impassable. Mary and Claire in the pool. Once there, we first did the candle lit cave tour. I LOVED this! We walked through the pitch black water while h...

emilyintheworld | everything beautiful in its time

Everything beautiful in its time. About me and my blog. Photography, cards and arty stuff. What I write about. Sprout time: when I miss Mum the most. I thought that sprout time and choirs would be the hardest , said John, my brother. Yes, he’s right. This is the time I miss Mum the most. Christmas Eve, 3pm. The time I always made every effort to be with Mum. Dad would’ve dutifully found Radio 4 and we’d have checked and double-checked that the…. Continue reading →. My Etsy shop – finally! For those of you who have witnessed and helped with my re-integration, thanks for your interest in my experience, patience and understanding! For those of you I have yet to see, I hope our paths cross soon! There's a lot more I could say on this subject, but I'll let you check out the website and ask questions as they arise! And yes, they named it after me.but it was not my idea! This is the inside o...

A Year in Japan in 100 Stories.

A Year in Japan in 100 Stories. Back in 2011 I went on one of the greatest adventures of my life. As part of my anthropology undergraduate I went to study in Tokyo for a year, I had never been to Japan before and had never been away from home for that long before either. I was expecting to be terrified, but at worst I was nervous. I don’d foresee there being much in the way of a definite order or structure to start with. I intend to experiment with a few things and see what works. But I hop...You are com...

Emily in Tonga

The life of a Peace Corps volunteer from Illinois in the Island Kingdom of Tonga. Sunday, August 31, 2008. I see that it's been about 4 months since I've written on here so I should probably write a long update post. Instead I'm just going to share a moment on my walk home this evening. After experiencing these trees, I noticed the ocean's waves actually looked pretty cool at dusk . And, really, most of what was meeting my eyes was quite pretty. So green. This country is so green and.alive. Anyway, this ...
