Monday, October 24, 2011. Last but not least. It's hard to believe I've been back in America over a year. For those of you who have witnessed and helped with my re-integration, thanks for your interest in my experience, patience and understanding! Adventures in Togo: November 2008

http://www.emilyintogo.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, November 25, 2008. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). I’m in Lome to celebrate Thanksgiving with some of my fellow volunteers and wanted to give you an update on life in Togo. I thought for this post I would take some time to answer your Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). FAQ #1: Have you had any more snake incidents? 8221; I wailed then quickly added “…could you Google it and see if it’s poisonous? Moi was attracting all the snakes in my village to the available food source. Although still ...

Adventures in Togo: June 2008

http://www.emilyintogo.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 9, 2008. I wanted to send you all a quick hello to let you know that I have arrived in Togo safely. We traveled to Lome (Togo's capital) after a few days of training in Philly. The Peace Corps has been taking AMAZING care of us- even going as far as changing money for us and picking up some items we may need. The food has been great and no one has gotten sick.so far. That's all for now. I'll write when I can! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Adventures in Togo: August 2008

http://www.emilyintogo.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Friday, August 22, 2008. Hard to believe I've been here over two months! I’m in Lome (the capital of Togo) right now being “sworn in” as a new volunteer with the rest of my stage (all the American trainees I came here with). We’ve been having a lot of fun enjoying the showers (albeit it cold ones), electricity and ice cream! On Monday we will all depart for our respective posts throughout Togo. (Below is a picture of my friend Kristina and me at our swearing-in ceremony.). She’s not quite as fat as...

Nikhil's Ridiculous Adventures in Africa and the Peace Corps. The adventures of swarley, and other stuff that happened today. A trashcan of tchouk, which costs about 4.500 CFA (or about $9), is approximately 1.5 feet high with an approximate diameter of 1 foot meaning the trashcan contains approximate 11.78 cubic feet of alcohol. So basically in one meeting, I find out that I am losing both of my homologues and that my AIDS association is pretty much broke. Fan-freaking-tastic. Nikhil's Ridiculous Adventures in Africa and the Peace Corps. Beignets, though not traditional to Togo, have also become a popular snack. Sweet beignets taste a bit like fried doughnuts and they can either be moist or dry. Spicy beignets are usually made from beans and interestingly enough they taste like a vadaa (South Indian dish again). This brings us to beer! First let’s cover. So that’s pretty much it for me. Looks like it's all the chili cheese fries, and milkshakes and choices I want for now. emilyinthesmallcity | A fine WordPress.com site

A fine WordPress.com site. October 7, 2013. Some stars aligned so that my last weekend in Europe could be spent in Edinburgh, Scotland with two of my favorite university pals. The juxtaposition of a city’s rich history against modern developments is wonderfully displayed in Edinburgh. And my weekend was the perfect mix of exploring (on World Tourism Day no less) and catching up with girlfriends including a hike to catch a better glimpse of the city. Stories I need to tell. Emily in the World....

Emily in the World. Thursday, July 28, 2016. We had some awesome 3 day weekends this past year and for one of them I was dying to go to Semuc Champey. This is a really beautiful river area near Lanquin, Guatemala. It can be tricky to get to because the roads are mostly dirt and twist and turn up and down mountains. During rainy season they are basically impassable. Mary and Claire in the pool. Once there, we first did the candle lit cave tour. I LOVED this! We walked through the pitch black water while h...

A Year in Japan in 100 Stories.

A Year in Japan in 100 Stories. Back in 2011 I went on one of the greatest adventures of my life. As part of my anthropology undergraduate I went to study in Tokyo for a year, I had never been to Japan before and had never been away from home for that long before either. I was expecting to be terrified, but at worst I was nervous. I don’d foresee there being much in the way of a definite order or structure to start with. I intend to experiment with a few things and see what works. But I hop...You are com...

The life of a Peace Corps volunteer from Illinois in the Island Kingdom of Tonga. Sunday, August 31, 2008. I see that it's been about 4 months since I've written on here so I should probably write a long update post. Instead I'm just going to share a moment on my walk home this evening. After experiencing these trees, I noticed the ocean's waves actually looked pretty cool at dusk . And, really, most of what was meeting my eyes was quite pretty. So green.
