Orange Blossom Sissy

Monday, March 2, 2015. I'm super good at missing obscure holidays. Which stinks, because I love them. International pancake day? Love them, but miss them all by at least a day. But I missed a big one. I missed Pig Appreciation day. Facebook failed to tell me until today that yesterday (March 1st) was Pig Appreciation day. Usually I would be okay with that but this year I actually have. A pig to appreciate. Also we had two pounds of bacon in the fridge we could have eaten. Monday, February 23, 2015. Can I...

Orange Blossom Sissy: January 2015

http://farmgirlinprogressdiary.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 19, 2015. Those of you who already know me probably know about our mounted deer head. Those of you who do not, get ready. Flowers, we are slacking. That was, until Juan. When we moved to the farm, my Granny was quick to pack up all that was hers to make room for us, leaving only a few things. One thing that she left behind was the mounted deer head that my brother begged her for. She got it at a flea market for $20. I know, we are a shame to the southern name. Juan graced our mantle for a...

Sunday, August 3, 2014. Six Weeks of Kittens: Week Two- The power of pictures. So I am just a little late in posting this week because I was doing some pretty heavy research- aka, rifling through closets and sheds and boxes to find the photos I wanted. There were so many photos. So. Many. And lots of floppy disks! Too bad they're obsolete because they are so cool looking. They had gotten huge. She took a picture when. Arts and crafts time went a little- okay, way. No one remembers.). Or how expensive the...

Orange Blossom Sissy: Meet The Family

http://farmgirlinprogressdiary.blogspot.com/p/meet-family.html

My family. They are funny, encouraging, and unique. VERY unique. Member of the family #1: Big Mike. Funny, caring, determined, talented, and full of integrity, my dad is one of my favorite people. He never ceases to surprise us all with his many, many, many. Member #3: Farmer's Daughter. Photo credits Lisaset Photography. Well, she is one of my closest friends and I am constantly grateful to have her. Member #4: Big Macintosh. How on earth am I supposed to describe my little brother? He Could Kill Me.

Wednesday, December 31, 2014. 14 Things I've Learned in 2014. While all of us are expected today to binge drink and make shallow vows to exercise more in the new year, I'd like to look back on the year I've lived. It was nice. 1 Sushi isn't actually that bad. Also, people can change their minds- so try new things and then try them again. 2 Kesha makes waking up on the bathroom floor sound way. Cooler than it actually is. 3 4H rocks and I wish I had gotten into it earlier! Central Florida Fair, March 6-8th.

The View from Here: The Reason Why

http://bittersweetmaryreedodell.blogspot.com/2015/03/the-reason-why.html

The View from Here. Sunday, March 15, 2015. Nearly every week I ask the girls in my Sunday School class: "What is the worst thing that could happen to you? The first time I asked it, I got a huge range of answers:. I could get my phone taken away". Not getting into college". My dad could lose his job". A parent could die.". All devastating things, to be sure (except maybe the phone), but not what I was hoping for. So, I re-phrased the question: " As a believer,. They had to think a little harder that time.

The View from Here. Saturday, August 24, 2013. Five Minute Friday (okay, Saturday): LAST. What a great word as we are beginning Cross Country season again. My kids are blessed to be part of the most encouraging team in the nation. (I'm not exaggerating.). Coaches, parents, and any athlete who is not currently running- all of them line the course to cheer for every team member. Even the very last one. I love Cross Country because you can be last and still have a victory! Like running, spiritual success re...

The View from Here: Bringing God into the World

http://bittersweetmaryreedodell.blogspot.com/2014/12/bringing-god-into-world.html

The View from Here. Wednesday, December 24, 2014. Bringing God into the World. This past Sunday I asked the teenage girls in my small group to imagine getting the news that Mary received when she was visited by the angel. For them, stepping into Mary's shoes would be a small step. Most of them are in circumstances similar to Mary's in many ways:. They are young, innocent, from deeply religious families- on the brink of adult life, but not quite ready. How would they react if they received this news:.

The View from Here. Tuesday, January 6, 2015. The Sum of my Wisdom. This year I turned 50, a milestone that ideally comes with some hard-earned wisdom to share. Instead, I've spent the past six months wondering how this could have happened to someone as young as I am. I swear, I JUST. Turned 40 a week ago! And napping- because, what with all that running and yoga, you know. What was I talking about? Celebrating the big 5-0. Did she learn everything I wanted her to learn? In the end, I cranked out a last-...

The View from Here. Tuesday, December 3, 2013. Sex-traffickers, the Prophets and Jen Hatmaker. The past few weeks God has been creating a perfect storm that is MESSING. ME. UP. I feel compelled to write, but I'm not even sure I can express clearly what is churning in me. I want to be polite, clear, and logical in challenging people, like the ever-gracious Tim Elmore. But my discontent is so deep right now that I think I'll probably slip more into a Matt Walsh. Esque degree of snarkiness. At the same time...

The View from Here. Wednesday, June 19, 2013. Has been teaching my children to think for themselves, to search for truth and not just blindly accept ideas just because some authority says so. Oh, wait, that was me. When I began homeschooling about six thousand years ago, one of my heart-felt convictions was that I wanted my children to know how to THINK independently. Beware of what you wish for. Here's the thing.(cringe). I do, you know.). Had the audacity to disagree. We're entering new territory now.

The View from Here: When Do I Rest?

http://bittersweetmaryreedodell.blogspot.com/2014/07/when-do-i-rest.html

The View from Here. Friday, July 18, 2014. When Do I Rest? Every January I spend some time thinking about what should be my "word" for the year. That may sound cheesy, but intentionality is not my strong suit, so I've found the practice a good one. One word, well-chosen, reminds me of an important focus for the year and guides my decision-making and prioritizing. On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested. From all his work." - Genesis 2:2. Here's the thing: The Bible doesn't ...

A look into the life and adventures of a bitterroot cowgirl! Saturday, August 15, 2015. Missoula Fair And Pro Rodeo. Yesterday me and mom went to the misuli (my way of saying missoula) fair and pro rodeo. The fair grounds were way smaller than I thought they would be for misuli. We had so much fun tho! Farm Girl in the Big City

Thursday, September 2, 2010. We finally made the jump from big city living down to the small town simple life. And I've created a new blog to chronicle the changes, from becoming a stay-at-home mom to updating our new-to-us 50s ranch house. Http:/ lifeinamericana.wordpress.com/. Hope to see you there! Thursday, July 8, 2010. An open letter of apology to my parents. I love my kids. I love them to pieces, but that doesn't mean they don't try my patience and my sanity on a daily basis. See, goofy, goofy girl.
