From Here to Middlemarch

From Here to Middlemarch. Saturday, January 24, 2015. A book may not tell us exactly how to live our own lives, but our own lives can teach us how to read a book.". From Here to Middlemarch. As a stepmother, but I find this a great quote about the experience of reading Victorian novels as a *** man in the 21st century, when I sometimes struggle to see myself represented. From Here to Middlemarch. Monday, January 12, 2015. With chills, I finished Middlemarch. Two days ago. It has to be one of my favorite books I've read, and definitely a wonderful way to start 2015. While wrapping it up, I wondered if a book like Middlemarch. I want to read The Brothers Karamazov. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. From Here to Middlemarch. Tuesday, January 6, 2015. So I was in Dunkin Donuts yesterday, eating my lunch among the retirees, bus drivers, and Ethiopians that make up Chicago DD clientele. I had my book with me, and unlike when I was reading Jane Austen, no one talks to me about Middlemarch. Gaga, yas," and his wife, standing on her walker in her bad orange wig, hollered: "Arthur! He ignored her and continued extolling the virtues of Middlemarch. Asked if I was reading for fun or for college (!

Making a Mess of It. Saturday, November 22, 2014. Cake Flour vs. All-Purpose Flour. Today is Howard's birthday! Also George Eliot's birthday (my new project has begun: chronicling the experience of reading Middlemarch. From Here to Middlemarch. And that journeyed across many neighborhoods afterwards. And so after breakfast I made him a chocolate cake. So when you are making a dessert that calls for cake flour and all you have is all-purpose, here's what you can do:. Making a Mess of It: December 2014

http://makingamessofit.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Making a Mess of It. Thursday, December 25, 2014. Guess which one I am. I write this sitting on the blue couch that was in our Kentucky farm house and has been transplanted to Cleveland. The wreckage of Christmas is around me- crumpled paper, presents, and a bottle of wine I occasionally sip from. This day has been characterized by board games, cooking, and drinking. Soundtrack: Sylvan Esso and Sturgill Simpson. 1 envelope unflavored gelatin. 3 eggs, separated. 1 3/4 cups milk. 3 tablespoons light rum.

Making a Mess of It: Merryfield Apple Cake

http://makingamessofit.blogspot.com/2015/01/merryfield-apple-cake.html

Making a Mess of It. Monday, January 12, 2015. The past weekend was insane at work, a constant juggling act that left me exhausted at the end of each day. Sunday I couldn't stop, though, and came home (Howard was at a writing group) and fed the pets as well as myself while simultaneously making a Merryfield apple cake for our building manager. I don't know where it gets its name, but a Merryfield cake is supposed to look something like this:. Photo from amandascookin.com. Quaint and English, isn't it?

http://makingamessofit.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Making a Mess of It. Thursday, January 22, 2015. Howard's been out of town since Friday, so I've been living as a single man, getting into wild hijinks, like drinking alone with an entire frozen pizza or maybe Ramen noodles! I've also taken a bath using what is called a "bath bomb." It sounds violent and wet, but is actually relaxing and smells wonderful. I felt like I was bathing in an avocado. But mostly I settle onto the couch, surrounded by animals, for marathon viewings of Girls. Chelsea said it rem...

From Here to Me | Where do I go from here?

From Here to Me. Where do I go from here? Growing up I had an Italian-American Grandfather, and two Polish-American Grandparents on my dad’s side. Holiday’s were about church and FOOD. Christmas may have belonged to my Italian Grandfather, but Easter, that belonged to my Polish Grandmother. Kielbasa, Pierogis, Ham, Golabki, and on and on until you are really full. Oh, and then candy, you cannot forget the candy. April 16, 2017. Lady General –. Thought a lot about what I was going to talk about tonight&#4...

From Here To Motherhood | The journey is longer than I had expected, but hopefully I'll reach the destination.

From Here To Motherhood. The journey is longer than I had expected, but hopefully I'll reach the destination. I Should . . . I mean, there is no such thing as perfect parenting and you can’t do it all. And just because something worked for one baby does not mean it will work for mine. But knowing that what I do now shapes L’s future is a very heavy responsibility. It is a responsibility that I want, very much, but it can be overwhelming, especially for a person like me. From Here To Nocturnity

Moving to a new place. Nothing against Blogger, but I've decided to move my blog over to Tumblr. Check it out! Created a miniature cityscape using 100,000 standard staples. It is called Ephemicropolis. And the creation took 40 hours. Crazy thing is that this is a temporary installation, and some janitor will eventually have to come by and sweep this up. Watch the 'making of' video (with cool timelapse) here. Some like it hot.and dimensional. I have been a long time fan of Colorado-based artist Evan Hecox.

Saturday, May 11, 2013. I got a new tattoo recently, and its the first one I've had done that holds real significance to me. My second tattoo I got when I was 21. From Here to Paris

So, one of my husband's favorite snacks is chips and salsa. My husband is also. One of those guys who can polish off a truckload of food and have nothing to show for it. He usually goes for the fresh salsa in the refrigerator section at the grocery store. Guys, have you seen. The price of that salsa in the refrigerator section? Let me tell you, it's usually too much. It's hard to justify paying at least four dollars for a little tub of salsa, especially if my husband can polish it off in a few minutes.
