Sunday, December 25, 2011. Just popping in to say I haven't forgotten this blog! I'm still planning to write a top 10 things I miss (and don't miss) about Korea list, and put a comprehensive photo slide show on here (as soon as I figure out how to make one). Hold the Kimchee: June 2011

http://www.holdthekimchee.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 13, 2011. A Belated Cherry Blossom Post. All right, so I've decided, since I have about three metric tons of photographs (which is quite a feat, as digital files don't weigh very much) that I will just start posting short, image-heavy entries in this blog until I get caught up. So, have some cherry blossoms! Walking down the street, it was as though the trees were supporting great, sweet-smelling clouds of pinkish white. Absolutely breathtaking. Taken with iPod near my school and apartment:.

Tuesday, August 30, 2011. But this time not because I'm sick! Not that I wound up going home from that, after all, but that's another story. But as we've been told, expressly, that we WILL be getting severance along with our last month's pay, and the school has mostly operated in good faith with us up to this point, I have confidence they will follow through. If not, I know some numbers and people to call that will get them in a lot of trouble with the Labor Board. :. I was paying off student loans that ...

Hold the Kimchee: September 2010

http://www.holdthekimchee.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 30, 2010. The New Guy- Orientation Day 2. It was a good day at orientation. We focused a lot on storytelling techniques, with a special guest speaker, Soo Kim. I didn't get any pictures of her, but she was very enthusiastic and had some great tips for effective storytelling. I think I'm going to enjoy this part of my job a lot! We also finally got to meet our new foreign teacher! From Cardiff, Wales. He's a charming fellow. I'm pretty sure he'll fit right in with the rest of our group.

Hold the Kimchee: Q&A Session #1, Jimjilbang, Spring Update

http://www.holdthekimchee.blogspot.com/2011/04/q-session-1-jimjilbang-spring-update.html

Sunday, April 10, 2011. Q&A Session #1, Jimjilbang, Spring Update. Lots to cover this time around, guys. I slacked off on the blog way longer than I planned, mostly due to being INSANELY busy and stressed with work. Writing was too much like a chore with everything else going on, so I put it off. But! I am caught up on household chores and I no longer want to break down and sob every time something new lands on my plate at work, so I'd better get this taken care of before life gets crazy again. ALL RIGHT...

Hold the Kimchee: Still Alive

http://www.holdthekimchee.blogspot.com/2011/06/still-alive.html

Saturday, June 11, 2011. I'm not sure I'm up for writing a full post even now, but I figured I should give you guys a preview of what I'm meant to be writing. So, in our next episode(s? Of Hold the Kimchee:. I will post about the cherry blossoms, pictures included! I will post an outline and photos of my boyfriend Chris' visit to Korea. I will discuss fainting and associated problems. I will give a shout out to my new friends. All right, I think that's all I've got steam to write for now, so signing off.

Notes From a Fairy Princess In Exile: Opera! Werther

http://notesfromafairyprincess.blogspot.com/2012/01/opera-werther.html

Notes From a Fairy Princess In Exile. Musings on fairy tales, myths, fables, writing, and the occasional fangirl squee about Baba Yaga. Its that time again! This time it was a Tragic Romance from the 1890s called Werther. Yeah if this is spoiling anything, you don't know opera very well. So…Here’s the good—as an opera, the music is perfect—the best, probably that I’ve seen. The set and costumes and casting choices are spot on perfect. Seriously folks—the dude who played Werther was wonderful. Werther is ...

Notes From a Fairy Princess In Exile. Musings on fairy tales, myths, fables, writing, and the occasional fangirl squee about Baba Yaga. So, I knew very little about this opera before I went to see it. I knew the name, and I had seen the promo materials—and I’ll be honest, I was a little wary of what I was going to see. Madame Butterfly then kills herself when it becomes clear her husband is a terrible human being who really did abandon her. Weird language choices are par for the course. The story’s...

http://notesfromafairyprincess.blogspot.com/2013/03/so.html

Notes From a Fairy Princess In Exile. Musings on fairy tales, myths, fables, writing, and the occasional fangirl squee about Baba Yaga. There is an opera of Hamlet. This is a thing that exists. Honestly, I enjoyed it; it is BEAUTIFUL. Seriously, I loved the music, the set, the costumes, the concept behind staging it all with a an iron curtain/fascist context. So, there are apparently a couple different versions of the opera—the original has Hamlet and Ophelia living at the end of the play. And he’s...

Hold the Lemon

My attitude is sour enough. Wednesday, February 16, 2011. Stick to what you know. I'm thinking, I love their cardigans and matchstick jeans. Using a clothing company's name on a shoe is a sneaky ploy to convince people their shoes are just as high-quality as their clothing, so the company can get away with charging way too much. Maybe it is a better quality shoe; I've never actually tried a pair on. But I think I'll stick to my $30 Nine West pumps. And that's all I have to say about that. In honor of Val...
