5 years ago - a look back at August 22. Aug 22nd, 2010 at 7:04 PM. The buzz this weekend in New Orleans is all about the anniversary coming up. Katrina, the storm that changed the city. I was a fairly regular journalist in 2005, so this morning I took a look back at August 22, 2005. 5 years later, my packing was quick and routine, clothing and laptop for a week of working away from home. Flying rather than driving. Alone rather than with Craig. Traveling for work rather than for pleasure.

Apr 6th, 2009 at 12:01 AM. I stayed in California this weekend for work, and got a break for today. Instead of staying cooped up at the hotel, I did a bit of exploring. I have been staying in Newark, so I headed across the Dumbarton bridge and through Palo Alto to route 84. 84 twists and turns toward the coast and highway 1. The scenery on 84 was really nice, but there were not too many spots convenient to stop and take pictures. The barn picture below was one such spot. View my Tags page.

Amberle, (for those of you who may not know), comes from the Shannara fantasy/sci-fi series of books by Terry Brooks; Elfstones of Shannara to be more specific. It is a series I highly recommend reading. I chose Amberle as my handle on the first BBS (Bulletin Board System) I joined in September of 1992. The name has stuck ever since. A Little Personal Info About Me. In short, I came down for Mardi Gras. In October of 1998, Craig and I made it official and tied the knot. We couldn't be happier.

I was fortunate enough to have access to a parking lot on St Charles Ave. near Lafayette Square to veiw the Rex parade this year. One of the highlights came when the bagpipe and drum corp stopped in front of us. a little girl talked to them and was invited by one of the drummers to play his drum. She was terrific!
