Sunday, 20 April 2008. The Lake District, U.K.-. I'm going to have to go ahead and vote this my favorite part of the trip. Mom, brother, and sister-in-law joined me in my country of residence for a week long stay in a cottage in the insanely bucolic Lake District. We spent the week wandering lush green landscapes, cuddling lambs, goat kids, horses, and barn cats, eating copious amounts of pub grub and sticky toffee pudding (yum! Saturday, 27 October 2007. A Walk in the Hills. Faced with the choice of either doing my reading or taking a walk through the contryside I chose the latter (which produced the following pictures). Wednesday, 13 February 2008. It's been a while. For me that is a good thing because it means I've been bust busy busy. It also means there's a lot of news and stories to share with interested parties. The most exciting of the news is that, now prepare yourselves, we've had 5 days of sunshine in a row! I cannot express how happy this has made everyone. Those lovely green fields that England is so famous for are now covered with lounging university students. I can never remember). A store full of some of the products Americans love best, at extremely high prices (though not so high that I was unwilling to splurge). A box of Annie's Mac n Cheese: 38 kronor ($5.85). A bottle of McCormick Vanilla extract: 52 kronor ($8.00). A box of Betty Crocker brownie mix: 60 kronor ($10.50). BbElf (a.k.a. panda). How do they survive? I put vanilla in everything.

Friday, December 14, 2007. Last two weeks in Lund, Pt. 1. It was a busy time! Today we said “Tack” to our Swedish teacher, Annika, and thanked her for being such a wonderful friend and instructor to the die-hard intermediate Swedish learners (only 7 of us left by the end of December! We gave her a group photo and brought a treat from Mormor's bakery. Then I decked the halls the traditional Swedish (and American) way, with an amaryllis and a wreath from the local grocery store:. St Lucia Day and exam day.

We ate ourselves silly at restaurants everyday for lunch, but cooked our own dinner (with salad! Almost every night. We laughed (at ourselves and at the Swedes). We braved the cold weather, bundled in our scarves and hats and gloves. We visited museums full of art and Swedish culture. We spent hours walking around town on skyltsöndag, marveling at the beautiful city of Lund. Labels: i love lund.

Sunday, December 02, 2007. Tonight was the Julstök at Lund’s culture and history museum, the Kulturen. It seemed like the whole city showed up to wander through the open-air part of the museum, where historical Swedish buildings create a cozy little village. The museum was all lit up, and with darkness falling well before 4PM, it was a really wonderful holiday atmosphere.
