Sunday, November 9, 2008. The Los Angeles AIDS WALK. My first exposure to HIV/AIDS was when I lived in downtown New York City with my friend Fidel, more than a decade ago. His brother had been HIV positive for quite a long time. I’m not exactly sure for how long. Fidel came from a family of four boys. This is the reason that participating in the Los Angeles AIDS Walk. Was so special to me. And this is how it all happened. I was hanging out in a great little coffee shop. I picked up LA Weekly. Not to soun...

KBTVonline: July 2008

http://kateinla.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, July 22, 2008. Let me set the scene: We’re in the operating room and I’ve never even seen an operating room – unless I was on the table! It was full of rows of steel beds covered with a piece of cloth. Young girls with sad eyes sitting and recovering from the operations to fix their fistulas. I conducted roughly nine or ten interviews with these young girls. Clearly, I don’t speak the language where we were in Zaria, Nigeria, but we somehow communicated. Well What does my pal Renato do? The foll...

Monday, March 31, 2008. KateInLA: Zaq on the Block. Camera pan forward three months to LA. Later that afternoon I met her son Zaq. That evening he asked me to sponsor him in his John Adams Middle School (JAMS) jog-a-thon to raise money for LCD projectors in every classroom. It was about 100 hours after I’d asked his Mom to sponsor me. So I gleefully accepted sponsoring Zaq in the jog-a-thon. It was taking place the following morning. Now this was something worth sponsoring! He didn’t seem to notice.

Monday, August 18, 2008. In the blog prior, I mentioned "The Pod."  . 160;I'm not really certain about how much I can write about it but suffice it to say that I went on a spiritual retreat – somewhere in New Mexico – and I learned a heck of a lot about the architecture of how I can embark on being happy. Of course, now I just have to execute it. Let's also say that Liz Brown of the www.kbtvonline.com. I did something called a Sweat Lodge. To be continued …. Posted by J.P. Saturday, August 16, 2008.

Kate in Library School

Kate in Library School. Wednesday, June 29, 2016. And in the end. Social media seems to me to be a natural tool for librarians to use. At its crux, librarianship is about connecting people with the information they need and the tools they need to use it. Since a tremendous majority of Americans are connected to the internet and engage in social media on one platform or another it is clear that librarians need to be prepared to use those same tools. Tuesday, June 28, 2016. Social Media for a Small Business.
