Completed: Hats
http://avocations.blogs.com/completed/hats/index.html
Diagonal Hat by Jean Wong. 148, lot 8. 18 sts = 4 inches in stockinette stitch. Pattern says to make five panels. When finished with five panels the bottom edge had a 20 inch circumference which was too small for me. My head measurement is just over 22 inches so, I made an additional panel which resulted in a 23 inch circumference. The larger circumference makes the hat a bit loose and perhaps a bit more comfortable. I might adjust the stitch and/or row count for the next hat. Grafting garter stitch edge.

This was my third time at Madrona. In four years, sharing a room with Yvonne as for last year, hanging out with knitting friends from Vancouver which was great and an improvement over last year, taking lots of classes as usual. None of that was surprising, but each of the classes had a surprise or two in store for me. Last year I went down on the train, this year I drove as the schedules didn't allow for an early-morning departure. After having made Bitterroot. And ordering her patterns. As if I don'...
Purlwise: Grafting
http://www.purlwise.com/grafting/index.html
It was a full week before I gather enough courage to press on with the daunting deed. The first attempt seemed quite easy until I pulled out the waste yarn and found that all of the purl stitches were sew as if they were knit stitches. Of course I ripped it all out and tried again. I had much better results on the second try only missing one stitch that I was able to fix with a imperceivable patch job. Here are a few photos. A row of thin white nylon cord served as a guide. Here are the results. The v-ne...
crookedneedles: 2010 is 1/3 behind us!
http://crookedneedles.blogspot.com/2010/05/2010-is-13-behind-us.html
Sunday, May 2, 2010. 2010 is 1/3 behind us! We had a false spring start here in the Pacific Northwest - it was just beautiful in February and reminded me why I love living here. It looked like March or April, and even the plants thought so. And now here we are with temperatures in the 50's in May. we won't have the same berry crops as last year! A great trip to Tacoma for Madrona. Filled me with joy and optimism! I was one of the lucky students in Jean Wong. After two intense days in class, I was on a re...

Tuesday, July 6, 2010. Hard to believe it's July 6th. The Pollyanna in me is loving the lush greens everywhere and is happy that all the rain could mitigate the need for water rationing this summer. The cynic in me really would like to avoid the morning chill and the soggy grass. Still, living here in the Pacific Northwest is nothing if not unpredictable! The forecasters tell us summer weather will arrive after July 4th. Today, it looks possible! At the moment I have a pair of socks for George in progres...

Monday, May 31, 2010. Takkin' and Makkin' ". The teaching style was relaxed and unassuming, beginning with a brief biography of Elizabeth's and Martha's history, a circuit around the room about student hopes and expectations, fair isle patterns discussion, and we began knitting color study swatches. I was surprised to hear her say that a Shetlander will always choose natural colors (did you notice her wonderful cardigan, above? To really see the new range. Rhonda's Knitting - Knitting News Cast. Friday, February 27, 2009. I know that it snowed yesterday but the signs of Spring have already started to appear. The other night a friend exclaimed about it being Spring when she saw some Crocus that was starting to bloom. And that made me realized that I don't know the flowers here that indicate that Spring is coming. I have a great love for Texas wildflowers and when the Texas Toad Flax. Looking at and taking pictures the many varieties of flowers there. And he...
