About - Knitting with Katherine

Workshops, Classes and Knitting Groups. Hello – and welcome again to my website! My name is Katherine Lymer and I love to knit! And love to read about knitting, talk about knitting, occasionally swap crochet for knitting, think about knitting, wear my knitting……! As with so many of my knitting heroes, I was taught to knit by my mother when I was a small child. John Lewis on Oxford Street, in case you’re interested. In that instant, I became a knitter. And I loved it. And I wore that cardigan to death.

Workshops, Classes and Knitting Groups. Inspiration: Where do you get yours? Other times, however, I do want to act but can be at a loss as how to. On a recent walk through some woods in the grounds of Paxon House. By East London Knits as it was such a pleasure to knit and I do love wearing it so much. I could even picture one of the yarns as both my sister-in-law and another friend have knitted with " Eden Cottage Yarns. What I get up to while my children nap. Thursday, 28 November 2013. Mittens for kittens.or gloves for small people. So, it's been a while. I've been working full time, naps are no more, and I've neglected my blogging if not my sewing. I have been busy making things, and even bough a new sewing machine! Here are a few highlights:. A friend and I made this quilt for a charity we both support - MUMs. Then there was this quilt for a friend's grandchild:. And this one for a nephew's wedding:. But I came up wi...

What I get up to while my children nap. Tuesday, 19 July 2011. My little girl loves to dance. She always has: her earliest nursery reports were of her bopping away to the music and clapping her hands. Now, at almost 18 months, she will happily dance on command or whenever she hears music. She twirls, spins, bounces, occasionally jumps, and is just the happiest wee creature you've ever seen. Of Scottish vernacular, which define "dancer" as a ". Start to finish, this project took me exactly one hour. A sma...

What I get up to while my children nap. Tuesday, 17 April 2012. In the last few weeks, a couple of friends have asked me about making their first quilt. Is it complicated? Is it going to be too advanced for their sewing? And how long will it take? This is a quilt I made from a single piece of flannel with appliqued flowers and birds. Didn't take too long to make, although (as with most quilts) the most time consuming part was the cutting out. The principles of this ' quilt in an hour. I recently saw a qu...

What I get up to while my children nap. Monday, 16 May 2011. Seven of you answered the poll on the website and said that you wanted to know how to make toddler trousers - here you go! Toddler trousers are just about the easiest things in the world to make. Having said that, I constantly. A pair of toddler trousers to use as a template. Newpaper for making your pattern. Elastic (I like to use fairly thick elastic, but whatever you're comfortable with really). Step 1: making your pattern. Trace up the insi...

What I get up to while my children nap. Friday, 24 June 2011. We're back to the Octonauts. I confess, I'm being a bit of a blog stats whore here, because when I look at my all time stats counter (I am obsessed with my blog stats), over a quarter of those who have flicked over here, or found me from a search engine, have done so because of the stuffed Peso tutorial. I'm also part of the Octonauts community on facebook. I feel it's time I came in with a serious contender. The process, for a change, involve...

What I get up to while my children nap. Friday, 29 April 2011. ABCs of Sewing: A is for Applique. Applique is a wonderful, wonderful thing. For a year I resisted it because I thought it sounded complicated and scary when in truth, it is easy as pie and can look great. There are lots of different ways you can applique, but for me, this method is the best. This is my first attempt at applique, done on a baby's quilt). A sewing machine with a zig-zag stitch. You can finish here, but to make it look good and...
Sew Bored: The Babushka Quilt
http://sewbored.blogspot.com/2012/05/babushka-quilt.html
What I get up to while my children nap. Wednesday, 9 May 2012. This project was definitely not made in an hour. It's been months in the making. So while I'm not suggesting you try it while your children nap, I wanted to document it anyway. I set out to find fabrics that reflected this, and eBay was a godsend for quickly finding various themed fat quarters. Russian FQ. Violin FQ. Cardinal FQ. Cat FQ. Moscow FQ, and so on! Is fantastic, though, for free quilting patterns.). Backed with red flannel. And...

What I get up to while my children nap. Monday, 14 May 2012. Yesterday was spent working on my little girl's summer wardrobe. We're going somewhere hot and humid for a week, and she'll need - well, summer clothes! Since little dresses are always my favourite thing to make, I tried a few different ones out (there's one more to come). First off, this wrap dress. 65279; . 65279; . 65279;. I pleated the sleeves and front, and in the end added a few to the back to size it properly. I love it. I set out...

What I get up to while my children nap. Friday, 12 August 2011. ABCs of Sewing: Q is for Quilting. First: what is a quilt? Well, it's a sandwich of fabrics consisting of a top layer. Quilt top), middle layer. Wadding, or sometimes batting), and bottom layer. Backing). It's usually finished with binding. The whole things makes a blanket which is viewable from both sides, so unlike most things you sew there is no 'wrong' side in the finished project. In the ditch' quilting. Sew Bored: Hillary's Craft Competition
http://sewbored.blogspot.com/2014/03/hillarys-craft-competition.html
What I get up to while my children nap. Thursday, 27 March 2014. And along came an email from my lovely friend J at QuiltyKitty. She'd found this brilliant craft competition run by Hillary's. They send you a metre of fabric of your choice (of four patterns) and you make something with it. Blog it, and you could win a big prize. Sold! Project Number 1: the houndstooth skirt. Maybe not as easy as the piping, but still quite good. Project Number 2: the handbag. I used my leftover green to line it, and basic...

The Fourth of July spirit. July 16, 2011. This design was advertised in the back of Creative Knitting early this summer, and I’ll bet I went to download it three or four times — then ended up debating why I’d pay for a simple combination of feather-and-fan and basketweave stitches. I ordered three skeins of rich, glossy UltraPima yarn, then looked at it for a couple weeks. And finally I went back to Desert Rose Designs and paid $6 for a pattern made up of stitches I already know by heart. May 26, 2011.

Sunday, February 17, 2013. Back in the saddle again! Well, my hand has finally healed enough from surgery to knit again! With some great patterns and a lot of encouragement from Jackie E-S of HeartStrings Fiber Arts. I have made some fun things. Gave me the courage to do something more challenging. My beautiful 19-yo granddaughter, Jenn, found a pattern for the SwirlyGig Hat at KnitPicks.com. That she really liked, so of course, this grandma HAD to make it! My current project is a pair of socks - for ME!

Just another WordPress.com site. July 18, 2012. I have recently discovered how beautiful buttons can be. Which is a shame because they are expensive! I’m posting a picture so that you can share the beauty! The words in the background were in a packet of buttons that i bought today. It says “I must not buy more buttons” which is true! On July 18, 2012. July 10, 2012. I bought this amazing purple yarn to knit a shawl to go with a dress that I hadn’t yet bought! If I love it I want it! On July 10, 2012.

Sunday, August 9, 2015. Purple Pagosa Springs Scarf. I actually finished my second Pagosa Springs scarf (a Dayna Scoles pattern from Etsy) awhile ago - but getting the pictures onto my computer and water marked proves to take longer than the actual loom knitting. Sheesh. I blocked the scarf using an ironing board with a damp towel and an iron and the lacework really opened up and made the scarf large enough for an adult! Will I make this pattern again? Thanks for stopping by. Wednesday, July 8, 2015.
