A move to the South Island in 1983 prompted a shift in my focus. I began to paint the surrounding environs of Upper and Lower Moutere, Tasman Bay and the Western Ranges. These works were often painted in oil or gouage and line and were loose depictions of the local landforms and seascapes. Influences at this point were Toss Woollaston and Ivan Hitchens.
