August 4th, 2015 - Linguaphiles. Frogs in the Tummy. August 4th, 2015. Frogs in the Tummy. When I was a little kid, my grandmother and my mum always warned me not to eat raw dough (which I loved) or else I would get frogs living in my stomach. Maybe this is a regional thing - I grew up in Carinthia, in the South of Austria - , because I only found this phrase referring to drinking too much water. Are there any other kinds of frogs-in-the-tummy related warnings where you live? August 4th, 2015.

Avium concentus in agris (. Avium concentus in agris. Afflicted by nightmares or anxieties:. He was hag-ridden by his early success. Maybe not a very unusual word, but I didn't know it before yesterday, when I heard it on Stephen Fry's QI, hocus pocus edition. Other Harry Potter related terms he explained to Daniel Radcliffe included muggle (originally: user of marijuana), dumbledore (bumblebee) and hogwart (a plant used to make alcohol taste disgusting). Weldon Thornton (Allusions in Ulysses, 1961) and Don Gifford (Ulysses Annotated, 1974) both agree that the first half of the sentence refers to a much-cited boner in The Winter's Tale, and the other one to Troilus and Cressida, though it is Hector and not Ulysses who 'quotes' Aristotle. What are you reading? A strange fellow here.

Avium concentus in agris (. Avium concentus in agris. In India, barefoot boys hold up parasols/umbrellas to keep the rain and sun off the women;. In Japan, the women hold up parasols/umbrellas for each other. Maybe I am fooled by fanciful literature on this, but it is too good not to mention! The example above is the only one that compares Japan to India instead of Europe. Post a new comment. Anonymous comments are disabled in this journal. We will log you in after post.
