Italy: Florence
http://martywatego21.blogspot.com/2008/08/florence.html
Where do I start with Florence. I had been wanting to go to Florence for sometime. Ever since I saw a documentary on the Medici Florence seemed to be the one Italy city that had everything for me. That afternoon we checked out the famous Duomo and the remarkable roof by bruneschelli. It was extremely hot in Florence during our stay with the temp generally up around 40*C, but we decided to climb to the top anyway. After 30 minues, 417 steps and a whole load of sweat we made it. The view is one...The next ...

THE MARTY & MEL CHRONICLES
http://martyandmel.blogspot.com/index.html
08 November, 2008. Well Marty and Mel fans, the time has come that we both have dreaded. This will be the last blog, installment and chapter of the Marty and Mel Chronicles. Our time has come to say our sad goodbyes as we have now landed back in to the best country that the world has to offer, 2 years, 1 month, 9 minutes and 17 seconds to the day that we left. It's hard to say what was the best and what was the worst as there are so many memories, but a few do spring to mind. So you may be wondering what...

Italy: Venice
http://martywatego21.blogspot.com/2008/02/venice.html
Venice is everything that you expect it to be plus heaps more. We arrived in on the train from Lucerne at about 6.00pm in the evening. The experience alone of just walking out of the train station is one that stick with you. You're not slowly lowered in to the Gondolas, Canals and bridges. You walk out and there it is, BAM! Right in your face. The small winding streets of Venice don't allow for any airflow at all so the temp was generally around 30*C in the evening. Our first full day in Venice. We check...

China: Shanghai
http://martywatego4.blogspot.com/2005/10/shanghai.html
We arrived in to Pudong International Airport in the late afternoon. After grabbing a ride from one of the many waiting taxis we began the long drive down town. Shanghai is a city on the rise. The skyline is dotted with cranes, half finished buildings and high rises. Our hotel was located one block off the main shopping street called Nanjing road. After settling into our room we made our way to the busy pedestrian mall to see what was happening in this so called "Paris of the East".

Cambodia: Siem Reap
http://martywatego6.blogspot.com/2007/03/siem-reap.html
4th April 2006 - 7th April 2006. Cambodia wasn't one of the top places on my travel list until a few months before the trip. I had only ever seen a few photo's of Angkor Wat but never really knew anything else. I was still working for FC at this time so the trip was only going to be a quick holiday. The plan was to fly into Siem Reap, Cambodia for 3 nights and then drop into Bangkok and Singapore before returning home. We were greeted by a man dressed in smart Asian attire. Black shiny shoes, blue dr...

Vietnam: Quy Nhon

Notre Dame in Saigon. Boat on the Mekong. Shooting an AK47 at the Cu Chi Tunnels. Boat ladies of the Mekong. Between Nha Trang and Hoi An there isn't much to see at all. While the country side is amazing and the hills just seem to rise straight up out of the ocean, tourist spots are few and far between.

Vietnam: Ha Long Bay & Cat Ba Island

Notre Dame in Saigon. Boat on the Mekong. Shooting an AK47 at the Cu Chi Tunnels. Boat ladies of the Mekong. Ha Long Bay and Cat Ba Island. I was lucky enough to visit this World Heritage listed icon two times during my stay in Vietnam. My first time was with my Intrepid Tour on arrival to the country and the second was on a well deserved break from teaching English in Hanoi, when my friend Kath decided to come over for a visit. Halong Bay is one of the must do's for any trip to Vietnam.

The next moring we had a little bit of a sleep in as we tried to shake the last of Morocco from us. I had stomach pains and Moroc Jock the day before. Maroc jock was diahorrea, a name we came up with at the start of the trip as a joke but I caught it on the last day. That afternoon we went down the road to Notre Dame (which means Our Lady). This was my first European church visit and I was more than impressed. The roof was so high, the building so old, the stained glass so colourful, what a sight!
