Notre Dame in Saigon. Boat on the Mekong. Shooting an AK47 at the Cu Chi Tunnels. Boat ladies of the Mekong. 226 Days in the Nam. 5th Oct 2006 - 18th May 2007. After making the obligated stops along the river to visit various produce, fruit and cake stores (which are quite interesting) we made our way into the tight winding waterways that is the Mekong River. Vietnam: Nha Trang

http://www.martywatego11.blogspot.com/2007/05/nha-trang.html

Notre Dame in Saigon. Boat on the Mekong. Shooting an AK47 at the Cu Chi Tunnels. Boat ladies of the Mekong. This place is just a cool little village. I say village because I just don't know if it's big enough to be classed as a city or town. We arrived here in the evening and just went to one of the many seafood restaurants that Nha Trang is famous for. Even though we had two nights/three days here I didn't feel as though it was enough to absorb the Nha trang vibe.

Notre Dame in Saigon. Boat on the Mekong. Shooting an AK47 at the Cu Chi Tunnels. Boat ladies of the Mekong. The village is now a permanent memorial where you can see the names of all the people who perished, as well as the two heros and all the spots in which the attrocities took place.

Notre Dame in Saigon. Boat on the Mekong. Shooting an AK47 at the Cu Chi Tunnels. Boat ladies of the Mekong. If you're only going to visit one place outside of HCMC or Hanoi than this would probably be the one. It has a beautiful old quarter which is off limits to car's and motorbike which makes for one of the nicest areas to walk around in Vietnam. They also have great little restaurants that line the river and serving some wonderful locals specialties as well as all of your favourites. If you're into p...

Italy: Florence

http://martywatego21.blogspot.com/2008/08/florence.html

Where do I start with Florence. I had been wanting to go to Florence for sometime. Ever since I saw a documentary on the Medici Florence seemed to be the one Italy city that had everything for me. That afternoon we checked out the famous Duomo and the remarkable roof by bruneschelli. It was extremely hot in Florence during our stay with the temp generally up around 40*C, but we decided to climb to the top anyway. After 30 minues, 417 steps and a whole load of sweat we made it. The view is one...The next ...

Italy: Venice

http://martywatego21.blogspot.com/2008/02/venice.html

Venice is everything that you expect it to be plus heaps more. We arrived in on the train from Lucerne at about 6.00pm in the evening. The experience alone of just walking out of the train station is one that stick with you. You're not slowly lowered in to the Gondolas, Canals and bridges. You walk out and there it is, BAM! Right in your face. The small winding streets of Venice don't allow for any airflow at all so the temp was generally around 30*C in the evening. Our first full day in Venice. We check...

I sat down and thought about the places I had been and decided I would like to make a website for when I'm old, grey and can't remember a thing. Granted those days don't seem as far away as they once were. So I had better hurry up. Hopefully when those days come, I will be able to remember the web address. Enjoy the read, take care and remember "Life is better with a soundtrack".

China: Shanghai

http://martywatego4.blogspot.com/2005/10/shanghai.html

We arrived in to Pudong International Airport in the late afternoon. After grabbing a ride from one of the many waiting taxis we began the long drive down town. Shanghai is a city on the rise. The skyline is dotted with cranes, half finished buildings and high rises. Our hotel was located one block off the main shopping street called Nanjing road. After settling into our room we made our way to the busy pedestrian mall to see what was happening in this so called "Paris of the East".

http://martywatego6.blogspot.com/2007/03/siem-reap.html

4th April 2006 - 7th April 2006. Cambodia wasn't one of the top places on my travel list until a few months before the trip. I had only ever seen a few photo's of Angkor Wat but never really knew anything else. I was still working for FC at this time so the trip was only going to be a quick holiday. The plan was to fly into Siem Reap, Cambodia for 3 nights and then drop into Bangkok and Singapore before returning home. We were greeted by a man dressed in smart Asian attire. Black shiny shoes, blue dr...

The next moring we had a little bit of a sleep in as we tried to shake the last of Morocco from us. I had stomach pains and Moroc Jock the day before. Maroc jock was diahorrea, a name we came up with at the start of the trip as a joke but I caught it on the last day. That afternoon we went down the road to Notre Dame (which means Our Lady). This was my first European church visit and I was more than impressed. The roof was so high, the building so old, the stained glass so colourful, what a sight!

Time Travelling is Heavy. Time travelling is heavy! The reference to Back to the Future is obvious, as it should be. Marty is in fact one person, coming from Lisbon, Portugal, which was a long time ago obsessed with the science fiction trilogy that dwells on alternate realities and how to avoid them. Loosely defined as guitar-driven indie rock, its hard to know if its the guitar doing the singing or Marty himself. Contact Marty Was Right. Switch to mobile view.

If your into western style shops, great food and giant pewter beer mugs then Kuala Lumpur is the place for you. I arrived into KL with my girlfriend Mel after a very rushed departure from Australia but it still hadn't sunk in that we had packed up all our belongings and quit our jobs. The first stop on our trip was one of friendship. Mels bestest bud in the whole wide world is here in KL for three days so we thought why not! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

18th May 2007 - 25th May 2007. It was not expected by either of us. He was dressed quite reasonably and by no means looked homeless. It came as quite a shock as we had already passed ten other people who had no shoes, holes in their pants and looked like they had been deprived a shower for quite a few days. Morocco

We arrived into Marrakech in the evening on the 9th June 2008 after a long lay over in Madrid coming from London, England. After the usual customs fun we made our way outside to get a ride into town. There were a few taxi's lined up with a sign stating 50Dirhims to town. One of the men approached us and said "Would you like a taxi? Is it only 50? I replied. He said "no! Then if you don't go in, they will ask you "convince me why you can't come in now". During our stay in Marrakech the temperature was abo...

Today is the last day of our London trip. We have been here for 4 nights so pretty quick. It's my first time and Mel's second. She came here for her work visa a few years back but I've never really had a urge to come here. That was until I got here. We're off to Morocco tomorrow so it's time to pack our bags.
