A lot of the time I hear ducks. Archive for the ‘Unfamiliar Foods’ Category. Hyde Park “Falafel Burger”. Thursday, August 21st, 2008. Yesterday I lunched with friends (which is to say, with the audience of this site) at Hyde Park. In Austin (the old one). It’s required of those living in Austin to like, even adore, Hyde Park, and I do like it. The people there are really nice, at least, and it’s a fun place to meet. You can’t really think that’s a success. To be better, though for all I know they’r...

The Voluptuous Table: La paloma rosada
http://thevoluptuoustable.blogspot.com/2014/05/la-paloma-rosada.html
Eating voluptuously, everyday. Monday, May 26, 2014. Is perhaps one of the oldest, most popular and most-recorded songs of its genre. Its sweet, lilting melody has been sung and played by musicians all over the world and conveys romance, nostalgia and the tension between love and loss. You've doubtless heard this song many times, in many incarnations. One of the most exquisite modern-day versions is by Greek singer Nana Mouskouri:. Ms Mouskouri also sings La Paloma. As a duet in French. Say that the Palo...

Vegan Vanguard: Charging Ahead of the Mainstream: October 2008

Vegan Vanguard: Charging Ahead of the Mainstream. Monday, October 6, 2008. Vegan MoFo: Vegan Pork Belly Review and BLT of AWESOMENESS. BLT of AWESOMENESS (that it is vegan should be understood by all, since it is AWESOME). First, I have to say, I was a little bit surprised by all of the positive responses I received after my meat analog post. I thought it would either be completely unnoticed since there were no pictures, or totally polarizing. I'm really glad so many people read it. A few weeks ago I men...

Around Austin, TX: February 2012
http://aroundaustintx.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Around Austin, TX. Sunday, February 12, 2012. 31: Uchi.a learning experience. I just reviewed my eating experience at Uchi on Yelp. I don't know what I was expecting to get out of it. Perhaps I came in with an already biased opinion because of how many people rave about it and how my flavor palette doesn't always agree with that of the general public. For a moment, I just came to the conclusion that I didn't like Japanese food as much as other kinds, after all, I'm Filipino (Bataan Death March people!

Around Austin, TX. Sunday, June 24, 2012. So, the MT Supermarket. And Hana World Market. I got excited and then quickly unexcited as the price per lb is $6.99 making each bag about $13-$14 :(. You can crush them between your palms or between your fingers, the hard outer rind will crack like above. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I've lived in Austin ever since I started college in 2004. I intend to stay in Austin until it drives me crazy or I drive it normal. View my complete profile.

The Voluptuous Table: Dinner in a box
http://thevoluptuoustable.blogspot.com/2014/04/dinner-in-box.html
Eating voluptuously, everyday. Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Dinner in a box. Several weeks ago, an offer for a mail-order dinner from a company called plated. One of the obvious appeals of plated. Is that a fairly inexperienced home cook could put together a dinner and look (and feel) like a competent cook; other reasons for purchasing ingredients from plated. Might be the time saved shopping and searching for recipes, as well as sprucing up a tired recipe repertoire. Is much more sophisticated than that!

The Voluptuous Table: September 2013
http://thevoluptuoustable.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Eating voluptuously, everyday. Thursday, September 26, 2013. Right in my back yard. Where I live and work- and please, local restaurateurs, forgive me for what I am about to say- it is hard to have a peak dining experience. If you're feeling flush, you can have a lovely drive onto the Hyatt Lost Pines. Grounds and have a fabulous meal and incredible service at the elegantly appointed and soothingly decorated Stories. You can venture down to the historic district. Food and wine snob. Other bonuses: the to...

The Voluptuous Table: High end lo mein
http://thevoluptuoustable.blogspot.com/2014/07/hi-end-lo-mein.html
Eating voluptuously, everyday. Saturday, July 19, 2014. High end lo mein. I don't pretend to know anything about Chinese cuisine, and I know even less about Chinese cooking. But I know I like noodles and I know what tastes good. And this tastes good:. Sharp-eyed folks will notice the non-authentic kaffir lime leaf that I used for garnish. Of all the Asian cuisines, Chinese is probably my least favorite. Never mind that my beloved epicurean grandfather was first to introduce me to moo shu pork. By Cheryl ...

The Voluptuous Table: June 2014
http://thevoluptuoustable.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Eating voluptuously, everyday. Thursday, June 12, 2014. Mr Foo's posthumously famous Chinese chicken wings. Being a personal friend of Madam Moo Shu, I was able to convince her to share her recipe, as a tribute to Mr. Foo. We would like everyone to remember Mr. Foo fondly, and to enjoy these chicken wings frequently in his honor. And it wouldn't hurt to raise a Mai Tai cocktail in his honor one bit, either. Find a good recipe here. I hope you have those little paper umbrellas. 3 to 4 Tbs. sambal oelek.
