Musings from Miklagard

Thursday, December 26, 2013. Driving along the Silk Road. We drove from Gazientep into the ancient Mespotamia, crossing the Euphrates river twice. Am on the Euphrates river was completed in 1990, is said to be one of the biggest dams in the world. It was built to generate electricity and to irrigate the plains in the region. The water flow in the Euphrates river is very irregular and used to cause big problems with drought in the summer and flooding in the winter. A gigantic mountain for a gigantic ego.

Musings from Miklagard: March 2013

http://musingsfrommiklagard.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Tuesday, March 26, 2013. A cave of prehistoric dimensions. In the fall we explored the Karain cave in southern Turkey, close to Antalya. To get to the cave we had to drive through farmland and small villages, and eventually climb up a steep hill. Once we got up to the entrance of the cave, we had a beautiful view over the plains that once was the ocean. All we could find was stalactites and stalagmites. View from the cave. This might have been ocean view when the cave was inhabited. Small people, big cave.

Musings from Miklagard: April 2012

http://musingsfrommiklagard.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, April 29, 2012. Spring is my overall favorite season! I think this is a kind of Sycamore tree, I just love these "Christmas balls". There are still dwellers living among all the apartment buildings in Istanbul. I was told that it is difficult to get insurance on wooden buildings in Istanbul,. So unfortunately many beautiful, old houses are falling apart. This was the only sculpture that looked completed. Even on the concrete ramps there are flowers planted. This spring we went to Norway for a wee...

Musings from Miklagard: Traveling far south and a little east

http://musingsfrommiklagard.blogspot.com/2013/10/traveling-far-south-and-little-east.html

Monday, October 7, 2013. Traveling far south and a little east. The city of Gaziantep is famous for being one of the world's oldest and continuously inhabited cities in the world. It is located in the southeastern part of Turkey and has about 1.400.000 citizens. We spent a day in Gaziantep and fell in love with the old markets and nearby workshops where coppersmiths and their apprentices were hammering on their beautiful, traditional pitchers and trays. Dried peppers and eggplants. Like father, like son.

musingsfrommelody | Living and learning from experience

Living and learning from experience. I had taken two courses based on Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way that had helped me open up creatively. It was because of the experiences of sharing with the other creative spirits in the classes that I finally gathered up my courage shook off some of my insecurities and inherent shyness to put me out there in my writing. It has been at times harrowing and at other times very satisfying. As far and as high as you can. Or jump if you must. You can reach your goals.

musingsfrommeredith | I'm just a girl…in the world

I'm just a girl…in the world. December 2, 2016. So TONIGHT I had the best girls night… with my daughter. She’s so beautiful and perfect and funny and silly and she just makes my life so much better. Better than I could have ever imagined. I don’t want to be a smug bitch and tell those without children or those about to have children that “they’ll understand later” because that doesn’t do anything except for like make their blood boil. Musings from Missouri

Friday, March 15, 2013. Right after I posted my last blog a month ago Henri was sick for a week, then I was sick with the genuine Influenza for almost two weeks. In that time we also had four snow days! I always love a good snow day. It took us a while after all that to feel back to normal. For me, for us, it feels worth the struggle to figure it out. To keep trying, sometimes poorly, sometimes with a successful balance, to live a part of our life outside of ourselves. Posted by Anna Casey. We started of...
