Insructional Design at Work. Where are We Going? August 3, 2014. Discussion forums engage students with each other and their instructor. Since many online courses do not meet face-to-face, forums can be used throughout a course to test thinking strategies, ask for feedback and help, and discuss topics. Instructors monitor or facilitate discussions with good questioning and follow-up skills. This is an example of a discussion that I lead. This entry was posted in Online Discussions. Creating and facilitating online learning communities. Instructional Design at Work. Changed title from “Organizing and Analyzing Information from the Web” to EASy-R. I added more detail to the instructions and instead of simply locating and listing information, I ask students think deeper about universal design principles, diverse students’ needs and the relationship of Web 2.0 tools. To illustrate, they must design appropriate assignments. In teaching it is necessary to apply what you have learned.

Creating and facilitating online learning communities. Instructional Design at Work. I changed the prompt to make it more applicable to the topic (Teaching a Hybrid Class). I chose a face-to-face situation because it is something the faculty will have a lot of experience with and probably success. I can later ask the same question on online students: How will you help students stay engaged in an online class? Read the prompt below, post your answer, and respond to others in the discussion.
