Adventures in Alaska

A look into our second year of teaching and marriage in Bush Alaska. Saturday, May 17, 2014. The End of Our Alaskan Adventure. We have been in the moving process this month. Moving 4,000 miles takes some serious planning. We have had a total of 3 yard sales, trying to lighten the amount of things we have to ship back. Happy with his yard sale purchase. I cleaned out the pantry, and gave our remaining food to a local friend who has four children. We set the third bed back up in our workout room. My classr...

Adventures in Alaska: Senior Dinner

http://www.nathanielandhollyrogers.blogspot.com/2014/05/senior-dinner.html

A look into our second year of teaching and marriage in Bush Alaska. Friday, May 9, 2014. Every year on the night before graduation, the teachers and staff host a dinner to honor the graduating seniors and their families. It is a huge feast and fun way to celebrate together. We used black paper to cover the cafeteria tables. Cutting strips of paper for the photo backdrop. We twisted silver and purple streamers to create table runners. Getting the pies ready. Steak and shrimp for the main course. There wa...

Adventures in Alaska: Last Lap Game

http://www.nathanielandhollyrogers.blogspot.com/2014/05/last-lap-game.html

A look into our second year of teaching and marriage in Bush Alaska. Thursday, May 8, 2014. We had the last "Lap Game" this week for elementary intramurals. The clouds opened up right before the game. Dividing into two teams. We played out at the old airport (not in use anymore). Nathaniel tossed the ball underhanded to each hitter. Me with one of the cook's from the school, she was cheering for her grandkids. We had more spectators for this game. We got snow this week. Thursday, May 08, 2014.

Adventures in Alaska: September 2013

http://www.nathanielandhollyrogers.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

A look into our second year of teaching and marriage in Bush Alaska. Saturday, September 28, 2013. Groceries from the Bush Order. We walked to school one morning and we were surprised by all the snow! At lunch time most of the snow had melted away. I saw this tiny snail on the boardwalk one day. It was as small as my thumbnail. I bought a George Forman grill at a garage sale this summer, it has been handy! Homemade French Fries (Baked). 2 Cut into french fry pieces. 3 Put pieces in a large bowl. We had t...

Adventures in Alaska: October 2013

http://www.nathanielandhollyrogers.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

A look into our second year of teaching and marriage in Bush Alaska. Sunday, October 27, 2013. Here's our new kitchen decor, thanks to Nathaniel's mom. I made some moose jerky this week to send to our parents. Mixing in the spices and cure into the ground moose. I stuffed it into the jerky gun. Ready to be dehydrated! Say hello to my little friend. This week was so much fun. We got to grade dozens of papers and do report cards, hooray! We had a little snow storm one day. The famous Yukon Cafe. Me with my...

Adventures in Alaska: Prom 2014

http://www.nathanielandhollyrogers.blogspot.com/2014/05/prom-2014.html

A look into our second year of teaching and marriage in Bush Alaska. Sunday, May 4, 2014. Prom 2014 was a success! Here are some pictures of the event from start to finish. Nathaniel was in charge of Prom this year, so he started decorating on Thursday. Lay out the gossamer fabric ceiling. First, they wove fishing line about across the gym. A group putting together the archway for the entrance to the dance floor. A group helped put together the star backdrop. The dance floor ceiling almost done. At 10pm ...

From the Basement

We don't actually live in a basement anymore. Thursday, June 11, 2015. A few days ago, I took Summer to her ice skating lesson while Nathaniel had lunch with a friend. He finished much later than we did, so Summer and I walked to a playground after she was done skating. Turns out playgrounds are a little boring when you're the only kid there. It was hot and sunny and there are only so many times you can do the monkey bars before you start to wonder why you're doing it in the first place. The remaining fi...

Nathaniel and Karen

Tee Ball, Shave Ice, and Karen’s Promotion. The boys are growing bigger every day. Dylan now is a talker and he and Dawson are conspiring daily it seems. It is so fun to watch their brotherly bond develop. We would have never guessed it to be so rewarding to witness them grow up together. Karen and I find ourselves smiling when watching them all the time. Dawson just started Tee Ball. A few weeks ago we went on another AMAZING Valve Vacation in Kauai. Salt water lagoon, Uncle's Shave Ice. Some long overd...

Kathryn finally has her own cleaning tools to use. So she doesn't have to take the mine. :). This man took me on a date. Deborah had a wonderful spread of healthy desserts. My prince charming is such a good Daddy. Kathryn saw Gege's Scouby Doo and loved it so much she gave. More coming sometime.:). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

The Mr. and Mrs.

Friday, July 17, 2009. First of all, and this did not happen in April- happened last week, I LOST MY PHONE AND THEREFORE ALL PHONE NUMBERS. Please text me your phone number, I'm going crazy. The Fam celebrated Good Friday with breakfast at the lake and a trip to Tortilla Flats. Hayden devised a contraption to keep the milk cold, of course. Testing out the water. Kenz and the Ladybug. Tate decided on fishing. With a strawberry for bait. Those curious to see if a fish would bite. The boys found a Horny Toad.
