Progress, politics, and other afflictions. How Conservatives Can Begin Thinking About a Public Health Option. Text Size : . Recently that conservatives ought not cast so many stones in the health care debate when none of them are coming up with any viable alternatives. I figured I’d use that as my cue to finally jump in and explain some of the principled ways that a conservative ought to think about health care. The Agony of Having No One to Blame. A ‘D’oh! B ‘That bastard! The public option only covers ...

Notes from a Young City
Notes from a Young City. Wide-eyed observations and outings in and around Changwon, South Korea. Tuesday, June 17, 2008. First up was the Lotus Lantern Festival. For someone who appreciates the necessity of tea in everyday life, the Hadong Wild Tea Cultural Festival. The festival had a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere, and special mention must go to Isobel, a volunteer from Seoul who provided English interpretation. Due to the rather grey weather, the festival wasn't particularly busy, so Isobel worke...

Notes from a Young Journalist
Notes from a Young Journalist. This blog follows the early career of a young journalist, Janine Armstrong. Monday, February 28, 2011. Is It A Young Journalist Thing, Or Is It Just Me? I noticed something that I do every time I contact someone for an interview. I always make a script. I state my name, the newspaper, and the nature of my call. I also tailor my script to fit different scenarios, like if I get the person's voice mail. Is this just a young journalist thing, or is it just me? If an event is ha...

Notes from a young teacher. Reflection on Digital Rhetorics. May 8, 2016. The biggest surprise I had during this project was accidentally discovering the Infographic creator, Piktochart. While I was searching for reputable blogging lesson plans on readwritethink.org. I enjoyed creating the infographics that I ultimately incorporated into my project on blogging. I ended up using Piktochart to create the infographic 10 benefits of educational blogging. As a whole, the class has helped me to realize the var...

November 29, 2011. After the BICI report. Filed under: Bahrain crackdown. 8212; notesfrombahrain @ 9:36 am. Nothing has changed in this country yet, but, alhamdullilah, at least an internationally recognized commission has provided some validity to their struggle and to the atrocities that have occurred here. Notes from the basement
Notes from the basement. Monday, January 4, 2010. It's not like I hung out with the guy. Bob was usually found sitting on a milk crate by the loading dock rolling tobacco into paper. Even the mornings I came in at six, he'd be planted there puffing away, raising his hand as I walked past. Conversation was limited to his chuckling when Gil insulted my cooking, or talking about the Jazz with Thomas Jackson while he sorted the dishes and put them back on the shelves. That was the end of Robert Burdick.
