Notes from cedar hills. Give Up Control To Experience Real Freedom. August 16, 2015. Life Is A River. The kitchen is primarily my domain. I cook our meals every day. I decide the weekly menu, I decide what ingredient is placed on what shelf in the kitchen and I take the responsibility of feeding us on a daily basis. Sometimes there’s a lot of grumbling involved. Sometimes I complain that I have to cook every single day, even when I’m tired. 10 Things I Wish I’d Known In My 20s. August 12, 2015. This is t...

Notes from cedar hills. The Futility of Comparing Yourself To Others. August 27, 2015. August 27, 2015. Comparing Apples And Oranges. A few things happen when we get into this cycle:. We waste a lot of time that could’ve been used in infinitely better ways. We don’t appreciate all the good things we already have. We move away from who we are to become like someone else. We are in a constant state of “wanting more” or “wanting something else”. Replace negative with positive. Every time you think a neg...

Notes from cedar hills. 10 Things I Wish I’d Known In My 20s. August 12, 2015. Advice For Those in Their 20s. I wish someone had given me some sound advice. However, I doubt if I would’ve listened. To those who are still not past their 20s, I would like to share things that I wish I’d known when I was their age:. It’s okay to not know yet what you want to do in the future. Most people don’t. Those who know often change their aspirations. Focus on building a wide variety of skills ...Make lots of friends ...

Why Our Grandparents Were Smarter Than Us | notes from cedar hills

https://notesfromcedarhills.wordpress.com/2015/07/12/why-our-grandparents-were-smarter-than-us

Notes from cedar hills. Why Our Grandparents Were Smarter Than Us. July 12, 2015. I’ve often wondered what it is that my grandparents did that has helped them live such healthy, long lives. I observed their lifestyle and made it a point to note things down. I’m not a medical professional or a health expert but I wanted to understand what makes their generation so different from ours:. Everything my grandparents ate was homemade. From their meals to their snacks and even their. Because they woke up early,...

March | 2015 | notes from cedar hills

https://notesfromcedarhills.wordpress.com/2015/03

Notes from cedar hills. March 31, 2015. April 21, 2015. The other day I was sitting in my living room, sipping on a cup of coffee while my brother was busy channel surfing. He ended up on a music channel with a Chris Brown video on. With my mind somewhere else I remember a thought creeping up in my brain saying, “Who would even like such a senseless song? 8221; I stopped what I was doing and sat up a bit straighter because I realized I spent the last decade listening to hip hop and rap. And to end, I fou...

Call Each Thing By It’s Right Name | notes from cedar hills

https://notesfromcedarhills.wordpress.com/2015/07/28/call-each-thing-by-its-right-name

Notes from cedar hills. Call Each Thing By It’s Right Name. July 28, 2015. A few days ago when I woke up in the morning I had this phrase stuck in my head, “to call each thing by its right name”. It went on and on, repeating itself in my mind, like a tape stuck in an eternal loop. I couldn’t get it out of my head for two or three days. Two days ago, on a whim, I decided to watch a movie called. Why do we just accept it without reasoning? Why those places in particular? Cooking Is A Personal Journey.

I want to live like Julia Child | Made to Misfit

https://madetomisfit.wordpress.com/2015/08/09/i-want-to-live-like-julia-child

A Misfit in Most Situations. I want to live like Julia Child. I cannot remember the number of times I have watched the movie Julie and Julia. It’s undoubtedly one of my most favorite movies about food and cooking (correction, THE most favorite…because well, Meryl Streep). I feel so positive and relaxed when I watch this movie. I don’t think I have ever gotten bored of this movie, except for those parts with Julie’s story, which I have no respect for. Posted in Movies and TV. August 9, 2015. 2 No Margarin...

SATC Reflections: Why I think Carrie is the worst friend and person | Made to Misfit

https://madetomisfit.wordpress.com/2015/06/27/satc-reflections

A Misfit in Most Situations. SATC Reflections: Why I think Carrie is the worst friend and person. I’m watching the last season of Sex and the City (SATC) again. This is generally my in-between-shows show, which means I end up watching the entire series 2-3 times a year. So I must have watched each episode a minimum of 10 times now. But since the first time, I have had more of a love-hate relationship with the show with every subsequent viewing. 3 How she manages to have such a luxurious lifestyle and own...

Here, we read and we growl. May 27, 2015. June 8, 2015. Eat Memory: Tiffin, by Rukmini Srinivas. Strangers on trains, restaurants, all sorts of places. Reading Rukmini Srinivas’s. I was reminded of those recipe books we’ve lost and I almost wept with longing. 8220;…the hostel room was small and cramped with two chests of drawers, two writing desks with straight-backed chairs, and two beds against each wall, and hardly any room to move…”. A Fake Engagement – A Real Wedding CHAPTER 10 | dustyboots

Dive in the world of fantasy, only coming out gasping into reality. Never be entirely idle; but either be reading, or writing, or praying, or meditating, or endeavoring something for the public good. Thomas a Kempis. A Fake Engagement – A Real Wedding CHAPTER 10. July 8, 2015. A fake engagement- a real wedding. 8221; Why is it that every time I try to do something nice for you, it backfires? 8221; Anjali asked her brother, thoroughly put out by his attitude that evening. Anjali continued, stuffing flower...

Petrichor- The Smell of Childhood | SlowRover

A Collection of Interesting Thoughts/Travelsightings/Stories/Trivia. Petrichor- The Smell of Childhood. August 2, 2015. February 27, 2016. I don’t remember my childhood. Nothing except the smell of the monsoon rains, right before they lashed onto the verandah. Me, the solitary crawler,. Both enchanted and perplexed by a sudden downpour, would rush indoors to the safety of my mother’s lap. Such memories are vague, rather loosely etched on my mind. But the smell of the rains, the Petrichor. Perhaps since t...

Ramblings of a College Introvert. Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans. My titles have gotten progressively dumber over time. I apologize for that. If I ever write a book I’ll probably have to improve on that. Oh well, don’t judge a book by its cover, amiright? Why do I care so much? Don’t I trust my friends or family? What will they think if I say this? Will they be okay if I say I’ve never agreed with them on this thing? What if she thinks I’m attacking her? I don’t want to ...

Notes from Carolyn

April 25, 2012. Roast chicken gravy sandwich. I was feeling a little too lazy to work in the kitchen today because of the ridiculous summer heat we've been having and wanted to avoid the kitchen unless necessary, so when we had leftover roast chicken and gravy from lunch that had to be turned into something for an afternoon snack, at the suggestion of my sister. Decided to make a sandwich. Sure enough, it was quick and easy. Roast Chicken Gravy Sandwich. 2 slices of white bread. 2-4 tbsp melted butter.

Notes from Carroll Gardens

Notes from Carroll Gardens. Sunday, January 2, 2011. The pictures are a week after the storm dumped 20 inches in Central Park and wind blew some impressive drifts, like the one in our backyard. Mary was buried up to her chin. With it 50 degrees today, much of it has already melted. Sunday, September 26, 2010. Saturday, September 25, 2010. A September Saturday was the perfect time to buy some pine nuts at Sahadi's and harvest the basil in the backyard. As for our other crops, the tomatoes fell to blig...

Notes from Ceylon

Jottings, rants and book reviews from a place that no longer exists. Colombo, 1998, S. Godage. I’m Sinhalese. It says so on my birth certificate, just as it did on my father’s. Like me, he was the son of a Eurasian mother, but this is how it works in Sri Lanka: your ‘race’, as noted in official records, is always deemed to be that of your father. Not that any real Sinhalese were fooled. They can tell a mile off that someone is sankara. 8211; suffering and sorrow are preordained, unavoidable. The effect o...
