My Adventures in a Big World
Now that my Journey’s come to an end… | Notes from Charlie
https://notesfromcharlie.wordpress.com/2013/10/14/now-that-my-journeys-come-to-an-end
My Adventures in a Big World. Places I’m Going. Now that my Journey’s come to an end…. October 14, 2013. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. One act of kindness can go a long way. Buying a bracelet from a lady in Nepal may give her bread for dinner, or leaving some scraps of food for a Thai dog would give it a full belly for the night. You can do an act of kindness anywhere, halfway around the world, or just around the corner. We bought friendship bracelets from this lady. Views all time: 4,657! There a...

My Adventures in a Big World. Places I’m Going. Mrs Kasoogi Travels the World. December 2, 2013. You may have seen photos of her, or perhaps heard me mention her before. She’s soft, orange, cute and huggable. Her name is Mrs. Kasoogi and she’s an Ugly Doll. Together, we traveled around the world and we have been through ups and downs. She also brought me comfort when I was homesick and missed my friends. Getting packed up again! Can you see me at the base of the statue? I love my feline friends! December...
Home Sweet Home | Notes from Charlie
https://notesfromcharlie.wordpress.com/2013/09/01/home-sweet-home
My Adventures in a Big World. Places I’m Going. September 1, 2013. Over the course of 36 hours of traveling, my family of four, including myself, went from Lusaka, Zambia, to my home near San Francisco, California, USA. We stopped in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, Rome, Italy and Toronto, Canada. Looking Sleepily Out at San Francisco. In my backyard, seeing Grandparents again. Happy to Ruby, our family dog, who lived in the country while we were traveling. The journey home is always the longest.

https://notesfromcharlie.wordpress.com/2013/08/19/safari-days
My Adventures in a Big World. Places I’m Going. August 19, 2013. The animal kingdom is what attracts many tourists to Africa. And how do you see the animals, you may ask? You go on Safari, just like I did. We had our guides, Manni and Matthew, to show us the way and help find the best spots to see the animals. Me offering a piece of bread to the cute wartie- I later got to pet him. Fuzzy baby zebra- just the cutest! Explorer Charlie spots lion paw prints. Great watering hole at Etosha. Our campsite in Et...

Notes from a Big World. One Family's Tales from the Trails, our RTW Journey. January 4, 2014. Happy New Year from Panama. The zipline area (if you look closely, you can see a small figure flying across the cable). Baking bread with my father and daughter. It was a wonderful day! Our fabulous house in Boquete. Much more spacious than our typical traveling digs. The main church in Casco Viejo. The new (still under construction) and the old (nearly falling down). Old places ready for an upgrade. However, th...

Notes from a Big World. One Family's Tales from the Trails, our RTW Journey. August 7, 2014. A Bargain in NYC: Leo House. New York City doesn’t have to be expensive, as Charlie and I discovered during a mother-daughter trip earlier this summer. We had a great stay at an affordable hotel, The Leo House. Have bags, will travel. Entrance to The Leo House. The building shows its age, but they are in the process of repairing the room or renovating the floors. Our room needed a paint job and the bathroom w...

Notes from a Big World. One Family's Tales from the Trails, our RTW Journey. March 21, 2014. Playa Coronado, Panama. Note: I wrote this about two months ago but for some reason it never posted.). Mango Haven, a name we lovingly bestowed on their new home. It’s hard to see the house, as it’s surrounded by trees and vegetation in every direction. It was a pool and lush gardens everywhere! Never too old for a swing! The backyard at Mango Haven. The kids loved it! Happy New Year from Panama. We too are joini...

notes from cedar hills
Notes from cedar hills. Give Up Control To Experience Real Freedom. August 16, 2015. Life Is A River. The kitchen is primarily my domain. I cook our meals every day. I decide the weekly menu, I decide what ingredient is placed on what shelf in the kitchen and I take the responsibility of feeding us on a daily basis. Sometimes there’s a lot of grumbling involved. Sometimes I complain that I have to cook every single day, even when I’m tired. 10 Things I Wish I’d Known In My 20s. August 12, 2015. This is t...

Notes from Central Africa Redux. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Future Fordmaker of America, or…about me. News from Congo, not mine, and not good. October 15, 2008. Especially now. One of the rebel groups is on the offensive again, and 100,000 people have fled their homes since August. Scott Baldauf, the staff writer for the Monitor in Africa, tells the story here. Notes from Ceylon
Jottings, rants and book reviews from a place that no longer exists. Colombo, 1998, S. Godage. I’m Sinhalese. It says so on my birth certificate, just as it did on my father’s. Like me, he was the son of a Eurasian mother, but this is how it works in Sri Lanka: your ‘race’, as noted in official records, is always deemed to be that of your father. Not that any real Sinhalese were fooled. They can tell a mile off that someone is sankara. 8211; suffering and sorrow are preordained, unavoidable. The effect o...

Eliza in Bangladesh | Notes from a year in Chittagong
Notes from a year in Chittagong. November 28, 2013. Since I’ve neglected to provide much written description of life in Chittagong, below are some stories (supplemented with photos) of random moments and thoughts of the last month or so. It’s 5:45 am and I’m fast walking down an almost entirely deserted street in my running shoes. The occasional rickshaw wallah and random pedestrian give me strange looks as I power by. I’m on my way to AUW’s varsity basketball practice. It’s a hartal. Day, but hartal.
