Virginia is for Teachers. Teaching Math Equality to Primary Children. My first graders are working on our equality unit this week. This is one unit that makes me cringe just a little bit because of the challenge of it, especially being at the beginning of the school year. Heres some of the things we have been learning:. We sorted subtraction (seen here) and addition (not pictured) sentences for different ways to equal a difference or a sum. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Beg, Borrow, and Teach! What an SOL ...

Virginia is for Teachers. A Teacher's Guide to Teaching Life Cycles: Frogs, Butterflies, and Chickens Oh My! One memory that stands out in my mind during my oldest's early elementary years is the experience of hatching chicks. His teacher said it was, "a dud year" and that she'd never do it again because so many didn't make it, but even so, it was truly a neat experience for him. Even 13 years later, he still remembers the chicks chirping, jumping around, and holding them, and the pictures? For Chicken w...

Virginia is for Teachers. Alphabet Journals.4 Steps for Journal Writing. First grade teachers work hard every year to send independent readers and writers to second grade. But every first grade teacher forgets what September means in first grade.it means they are still kindergartners. The re-post can be a good idea for journals at the beginning of first grade. She also has a really cute Lorax activity on her blog for free! Thing 2 came to my backyard. She yanked my dog's tail, made all the palm trees collapse, ...

Fun 2B in First: Games & Tag
http://fun2binfirst.blogspot.com/2012/04/games-tag.html
Science and S.S. Reading/L.A. Printables. Thursday, April 12, 2012. So, today I did something I don't usually do and it caused a stir in my classroom. All, and I do mean all, of my students stopped playing in the middle of recess and started screaming at eachother to look. Why? Well, I snuck on to the jungle gym with them while they were busy playing. I went down the slide, played chase, and climbed right along with them. They were so excited! I'll start with the questions I was asked and my answers.

http://littlemissteachyteach.blogspot.com/2014/05/five-for-friday-currently-and-freebie.html
Friday, May 2, 2014. Five for Friday, CURRENTLY, and a FREEBIE! What a LONG week I had. We started our planting unit this week and planted our very own sunflowers. OF COURSE because I was not blessed with a green thumb, I totally drowned the poor seeds! I brought them home with me hoping I can save them. If not…. I'm going to have to make a trip to Michaels and Lowes! Womp Womp. At least my littles found it humorous! I was expecting tears and whines because I killed their plants. But! UGH love this movie!
