DCG Project ePortfolio

Tuesday, February 15, 2011. Above is a short video that explains why I designed my locking mechanism and how it works in the real world. Enjoy. Saturday, February 12, 2011. I think that this would be a very desirable concept for use in elderly people’s homes. The reasons I feel this to be the case are:. The lock is also so familiar to the older generation that they would barely even notice the change but it would really help them especially during the winter when there is a risk of the door jamming leavi...

DCG Project ePortfolio: Possible Solution 1

http://paulsschoolblog-eportfolio.blogspot.com/2011/02/possible-solution-1.html

Friday, February 11, 2011. Above is my first possible solution. It incorporates mortise lock with a hybrid electronic and analog key, an infra read beam and an electric motor powered door opening mechanism to open the door for the elderly person. Mortise Lock with Hybrid Key. The infra-red beam detects when the elderly person has safely walked through the door and gives the opening/closing mechanism the signal to close behind the person. Electric Motor Powered Door Opening/Closing Mechanism. The fact the...

Saturday, February 12, 2011. Manufacture - Class 5. This is the class I have been really looking forward to. I finally got to assemble my lock and see it in action. The assembly process was quite simple and rewarding. Below is a video of the lock assembly in action. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Example Web Based Tools Applications. DCG Project ePortfolio: Manufacture - Class 3

http://paulsschoolblog-eportfolio.blogspot.com/2011/02/manufacture-class-3.html

Saturday, February 12, 2011. Manufacture - Class 3. Today didn't go as well as I had hoped but I still got three parts completed. My problem was with the key part which took longer than expected to figure out. I got my key and the barrel surrounds finished today. The key was much more complicated to complete than I had thought. I think I could have made it more realistic also but cutting out the pin pushing parts were difficult as I wanted them to coincide with the holes I have put in the key barrel.

DCG Project ePortfolio: Finished Solution

http://paulsschoolblog-eportfolio.blogspot.com/2011/02/finished-solution.html

Saturday, February 12, 2011. 1 I mounted the solenoid up against the faceplate of the horizontal bolt. The reason I did this was purely because the rubber face of the ram has to push against the door jam and it simple would not have where I had sketched it previously. 2 I added vertical bolts into the design. I did this to add extra security for the inhabitant of the house. These bolts will make it much harder for anyone to knock in the door. Sequence of events when using this locking mechanism. Paul L's Mirror Blog: March 2011

http://paulsschoolblog-mirror.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Paul L's Mirror Blog. Tuesday, March 8, 2011. Practical Action Peru Reflection. After reading Edward's reflection on the Practical Action Peru reading I decided that I would read it myself. People living in a remote part of the Peruvian Andes did not have any means of generating electricity and had to rely on batteries, oil and candles to heat and light their homes. Practical Action set up very simple wind turbines which created enough electricity to power lights and computers. Practical Action Peru Wind.

Paul L's Mirror Blog: Practical Action Kenya Reflection

http://paulsschoolblog-mirror.blogspot.com/2011/03/practical-action-kenya-reflection.html

Paul L's Mirror Blog. Tuesday, March 8, 2011. Practical Action Kenya Reflection. This text is about the problem of not having clean water in Africa. The Practical Action team solved this problem in the area of Turkana by installing solar powered water pumps to pump water from 100 metres below the ground. I found this text really interesting. The fact that something as simple as a solar powered pump could make such a huge difference to peoples' lives is amazing. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Picture...
