My thoughts on gardening and the domestic arts. Laquo; Personal Cabbage. State of the Garden. First Tomatoes of the Year. Posted June 20, 2013 by plot26 in Uncategorized. My carpet bombed seed bed worked extremely well. It produced so much lettuce that we only harvested a small portion. The lettuces are now bolting. The Swiss chard is coming along nicely and we harvested our fist batch yesterday. I’ve got a few nice kohlrabis. The mint, dill, tarragon, and chives look great. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

My thoughts on gardening and the domestic arts. Laquo; Spring Break like a boss. Posted March 14, 2013 by plot26 in Uncategorized. Yesterday afternoon we went to Home Depot and rented the smallest garden tiller they have at a cost of $30. Steve got the garden tilled in about 10 minutes and now our soil looks like what you see in fancy gardening magazines. It’s beautiful. We also put out our cages where the tomatoes and peppers will go in about a month. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

My thoughts on gardening and the domestic arts. Laquo; Turned Over the Garden. Posted March 27, 2014 by plot26 in Uncategorized. Despite this past winter being the coldest and meanest I’ve ever experienced in Oxford, we managed to get the plot ready for spring planting at the same time of year that we always do. Last weekend we finished pulling weeds (will we ever learn to mulch? Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Fill in your details below or click an icon to log in:.

My thoughts on gardening and the domestic arts. Laquo; Carpet bombing seeds. Posted April 20, 2013 by plot26 in Uncategorized. It looks like most everything that I planted back in March is sprouting! I need to find me some hot pepper plants, there weren’t any at the Garden Center yesterday when I picked up the tomatoes. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Tilthissippi: April 2010
http://tilthissippi.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 27, 2010. J and I stopped at the garden last night, and of course, it took his keen birding skills to find our little feathered friends. We saw two of the four - sorry, no pics of those - scurrying around looking for dinner. The parents were indeed nearby, calling to each other about the predator in the area. Thursday, April 22, 2010. Can you see them? While this nesting site seemed a little suspect at first, the benefit is now pretty clear. Monday, April 19, 2010. Bring on the heat. Now a...
Tilthissippi: June 2010
http://tilthissippi.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 23, 2010. A few weeks later, the birds set up a third nest in yet in another plot, unfortunately one that hadn't been worked yet. It was quite weedy, which might have otherwise been a good place for a nest, but wouldn't you know it - the plotholder went out and tilled the plot the very next day. Tough timing. Unsuccessful attempt #2. No wonder they lay so many clutches. I guess if you're going to have a nest ON THE GROUND, OUT IN THE OPEN (really? Tuesday, June 22, 2010. We are now on tra...

Tilthissippi: lost the battle
http://tilthissippi.blogspot.com/2010/07/lost-battle.html
Friday, July 23, 2010. Here is where I start to eat my words.) He asked me if we had been picking off the little "suckers" - the leaves that form in the crooks of the main stems. Apparently, this is good-for-nothing tissue that only sucks resources away from the fruiting stems (hence the label, "suckers"). My (dare I say professional? Opinion was that with more tissue, the plant would photosynthesize more, make more sugar, and that would be allocated to fruiting. A good thing, right? Will Cooley Fan Club.

Cold Beet and Yogurt Soup – REVISED | FODMAP diet recipes

Just another WordPress.com site. Cold Beet and Yogurt Soup – REVISED. June 18, 2014. It turns out that BEETS are high in oligosaccharides. DO NOT make this recipe if these are a problem for you. This recipe is based on one for a Polish soup called chlodnik. I won’t try to explain how to pronounce it! Plan ahead, because this needs some time to chill in the fridge. 3 small beets, trimmed, peeled and diced small (approximately 1.5 cups). 1 cup water or chicken stock. 2-3 tablespoons minced fresh dill.

Scattered Gardening in MS: Seed starting
http://scatteredgardening.blogspot.com/2010/04/seed-starting.html
Scattered Gardening in MS. Gardening opens doors to new worlds. Wednesday, April 7, 2010. My daughter is once again gearing up her business, Joyous's Plants, for the Midtown Farmer's Market. She's finding out that growing herbs (2 kinds of basil, summer savory, lemon balm, and parsley) is a lot more work than growing the red buckeyes she sold last year (there are about 4 of those left, too). But everything is coming up well, and she has a great crop of moonvines to boot (below). April 10, 2010 at 3:47 PM.

https://fodmapdietrecipes.wordpress.com/2013/10/12/zuppa-marcella-a-low-fodmap-recipe
Just another WordPress.com site. October 12, 2013. I was inspired to make a minestrone-like soup when I heard about the passing of Marcella Hazan. Recently. I didn’t dare actually call this a minestrone because it is not authentic. But it sure is tasty and quick! 2 tablespoons clarified butter. 1 cup sliced leeks, green parts only. 1/2 lb. ground beef. 2 cups fire roasted tomatoes, preferably homemade. 1/2 cup dry red wine. 1/2 cup finely diced carrot. 1 cup shredded green cabbage. 1 small zucchini, diced.

The Girl on Plot 28 | the one who talks to worms…
The Girl on Plot 28. The one who talks to worms…. My Black Rock hen, Rusty. Do you think she wants to join me down on the allotment? Or is she more interested in the handful of dandelion greens and hedge garlic that I’m holding…? I’m quite sure she would be happy with both! Ps… see the shed walls acting as carport walls? That’s my shed that is. Waiting to be put into good use down the allotment again! Bed One is Dug! Seed potatoes are between the rocks in two rows. I’m going to be fit in no time ;).
Plot 28E
Saturday, 8 June 2013. Back on the range. Saturday, 7 April 2012. Waiting for the sun. So more snow and with it the notion of getting a head start gone out of the window. Never mind at least the spuds are still ok and hopefully that is the last of the really cold weather. Will have to check the seed bed tomorrow and assess the damage! Thursday, 15 March 2012. Seeds in and hoping to put some early plug plants in too. Wednesday, 15 February 2012. Two strawberries from last summer. Thursday, 9 February 2012.

Beware of the Flowers! Coz I'm sure they're going to get you……….YEAH! The results are in! That competition I entered – The annual event organised by the Leeds and District Allotment Gardener’s Federation to find the best allotments in the city……. A letter came through the post today with the results………. How do you think I did? I’ve worked my little socks off to reach this point…. 😉. Crop Quality (40% maximum). Maybe I need to concentrate on ways of bringing more pollinators on to Plot 29 next year….
plot 29 | Biodynamic vegetable gardening from Branch Hill – Allan Jenkins and Howard Sooley
Biodynamic vegetable gardening from Branch Hill – Allan Jenkins and Howard Sooley. Summer fading to autumn. Sorry for the silence…. Magnolia campbelli at kew. March 23, 2015. A good autumn walk on Hampstead Heath, sunny and still. At noon I noted how low the sun was in the sky, no longer over head, now struggling to get much above the tops of the heaths taller beech trees. October 6, 2014. From the pavements of Kentish Town. October 3, 2014. Summer fading to autumn. There is a cold damp morning mist clin...
