I blog from Bologna: December 2005

http://rachelinitalia.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html

I blog from Bologna. Friday, December 23, 2005. Back from Berlin, Goodbye Bologna. Oh, and the other thing about Berlin.they are obsessed, yes obsessed with Christmas. Christmas markets, Christmas trees everywhere (even on top of Checkpoint Charlie! But then I got back to Italy, and found that Christmas had hit Bologna too. They put up a two-story high tree in front of the Palazzo Comunale, and every store window (even the posh D&G window! Opium especially I guess? It's going to be sweet! La vie au Maroc.

I blog from Bologna. Thursday, September 29, 2005. I HAVE A HOME! It's official, no cold nights on Zamboni for me! And DeLay indicted too! Two miracles in 24 hours! Because one knows how to read, the other how to write".and so on in this vein) If only those jokes weren't so uncomfortably close to reality. It would be oh so funny if it weren't oh so sad. The very abbreviated version of my two weeks in Spain. Toledo: Got to see all the El Greco I could want. So also awesome. Valencia: This is a horrible, disloyal thing to say, but Valencia is the cool kids' version of Bologna. Hip medieval college town. Lots of orange trees. Good paella. Good music. Nice people. Two thumbs up. I HAVE A HOME!

I blog from Bologna. Friday, October 21, 2005. The jolliness of such absolute chaos was at first hard for my rigid Anglo mentality to accept, but the bottom line is.great parties and out of five weeks of class, at least two and a half are cancelled. When I get back, I'm calling for Dwinelle to be occupied at least once a semester. Posted by Rachel at 5:14 AM. View my complete profile. From Dallas City Council to the Supreme Court. I HAVE A HOME! I blog from Bologna. Thursday, October 06, 2005. From Dallas City Council to the Supreme Court. I'm still suspicious of John Roberts, but Harriet Miers is just downright embarassing. Cosmopolitan Life: August 2005

http://cosmopolitan18.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 31, 2005. If you grew up in my generation in Israel, you’re most likely significantly taller than your parents. The average height of Israelis born in the 60’s is probably 2-3 inches more than their parents, a significant change. But since then, average height hasn’t been changing much. My kids are around my height (with adjustments for one of them being a boy), and that’s pretty much par for the course. I don’t know about men, but I’d speculate 6’1 . So back to the Dutch. And the c...

Words on experience and life design. Designing for a Sustainable World. A delayed post on the line-up of interesting speakers I heard at World Usability Day, the theme of which focused on the intersection between sustainability and usability. VerTerra, Michael Dwork's company, creates disposable plates out of dead palm leaves. In addition to being durable, beautiful and compostable, I was struck by the dependency of their creation- they can only. The answer, in short: it can be used to persuade, inspire ...

The hard times the good times and everything in between. Just to share a short experience:.

Rachel in Kenya: Reflections on my Journey. Three weeks ago I added a new stamp to my passport: Tanzania. This would be the sixth new stamp to my passport within the past two years, and most likely my last new stamp in my current passport. My journey to Tanzania was for the purpose of helping to lead a leadership and professional development workshop for some local teachers working at a school sponsored by New Hope Initiative in Arusha. Lives that I get to be a big. It is hard to come to terms with the f...
