Rambling Down in the Street

Thursday, October 3, 2013. Anne Ford Essay, 2007. But I knew everyone thought I was stupid, and I became determined to disprove them. I lied to my friends about where I went every morning. I was surly to Alice. When she finally stopped coming, I was convinced it was because she realized I wasn’t an idiot. I couldn't admit that I had actually learned something, the thing that finally enabled me to read. The essay won me the 2007 Honorable Mention for the Anne Ford Scholarship. Rambling Down in the Street: Christmas in Aix

http://www.ramblingdowninthestreet.blogspot.com/2010/03/christmas-in-aix.html

Sunday, March 7, 2010. Our Christmas Eve dinner party, minus Kiley, who took the picture. We went on an adventure in the fish market and came back with squid, which we made into a lovely tomato and white wine pasta sauce. I really have to give Kiley credit for that one; her enthusiasm to clean them overpowered my giggles. She did most of the work while I made the salad. Kiley carving up her first roast chicken. We determined this officially makes her a woman. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Rambling Down in the Street: New Year's Eve in Grenoble

http://www.ramblingdowninthestreet.blogspot.com/2010/03/new-years-eve-in-aix.html

Sunday, March 7, 2010. New Year's Eve in Grenoble. We spent a few days over New Years in Grenoble. The city was beautiful, and you could see the snow capped mountains rising on all sides every time the clouds cleared. There were lots of things to do. We went to the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Museum of Natural History and the Holocaust Museum. We took a the téléperiphic boules. At the top of the hill we went to the Mountain Scout Museum and learned about the history of downhill skis.

Sunday, March 7, 2010. We went back to the French Alps near Grenoble for a skiing mini-break. We hit the slopes all day and made fondue and played Yatzee in the evenings. This Sceptred Isle: My Semester in the UK. When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." — Samuel Johnson. Friday, April 23, 2010. Cry God for Harry, England, and St. George. I haven't updated in a while because I was sick for the first half of this month, and the second half I've been writing papers like crazy (due on Tuesday! But I will take a procrastinating pause to reflect on this very special day. So from England, happy St. George's Day!

This Sceptred Isle: My Semester in the UK. When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." — Samuel Johnson. Saturday, May 15, 2010. The whole world takes its time from Greenwich, but Greenwich, they say, takes its time from Admiral Boom. But the highlight was definitely the concert. I'll admit, with a little embarrassment, I teared up when she walked onstage. As many of you know, Julie Andrews had surgery on her vocal chords. By all means, Rome. ...

Why oh why do I love Paris? Because my love is here. The following week was reading week for most humanities departments at King's, which meant a week without classes to allegedly "catch up on reading." Well, I'm pretty good at reading as I go so I said, "See ya! One of the most popular tombstones belongs to Irish n...

I've never voted Tory before, but. The British general election was May 6, and it was one for the books. The title above was my favorite campaign ad slogan, just because the jokes write themselves (the Tories are the Conservatives, or the center-right party). For someone who follows politics as a hobby, this election has be...

Doah's Ramblings

Wednesday, January 21, 2015. What makes me like a movie? Yesterday I posted the following status update on Facebook: With Selma this past weekend, finished-up all 8 Best Picture nominations now. I kinda put Selma in a category with Unbroken (not nominated for picture) which is totally fine and respectable narrative history lesson * but not astonishing in the way say Schindler’s List or JFK were. I sure hope Best Picture goes to Birdman, Boyhood, or The Grand Budapest Hotel. But, that is not enough! For e...

Rambling Dream

Nature loving vegan minimalist with wanderlust. Minimalism has made us look at everything in our life, both physical and non. One of the things we decided upon was to not have urns for our sweeties. Instead, we have a single jar to represent them all. Both of us want our ashes scattered in a body of water when we die and we feel most at peace with the same when it comes to our pack members. This year started off rough for the gardens due to the weather, but it ended up peaking in July and was the best it...
