Something For Everyone: The parkrun Revolution | Run, Rest, Repeat
https://runningdanw.wordpress.com/2014/12/28/something-for-everyone-the-parkrun-revolution
Run, Rest, Repeat. Something For Everyone: The parkrun Revolution. Having recently celebrated it’s tenth birthday. You can’t have failed to hear about parkrun. But have you printed your barcode and joined in yet? No matter what type of runner you are, I’ve no doubt you (and your running) could benefit from getting involved. For those of you who haven’t heard of. And yes, it’s correctly written with no capitals] the concept is a simple one:. Perhaps the fact that runners are still very much a misunderstoo...
The Tale of Two Races – Part 1: Iffley Miles | Run, Rest, Repeat
https://runningdanw.wordpress.com/2015/07/19/the-tale-of-two-races-part-1-iffley-miles
Run, Rest, Repeat. The Tale of Two Races – Part 1: Iffley Miles. Last year I discovered a fascinating-yet-underloved running distance that has won my heart. The Oxford University’s Iffley Road track hosted the Iffley Miles. Along with my very approximate attempt to emulate Sir Roger Bannister. The 60th anniversary of Sir Roger Bannister recording the first ever sub 4 minute mile piqued my interest last year and I pulled together more than 50 people around the globe to run a mile in tribute. As a member o...
Pennies For Porridge | Run, Rest, Repeat

Run, Rest, Repeat. Any runner worth their salt knows that porridge can be a great fuel for running but at African Children’s Fund. The charity I’m running the London Marathon for, porridge is a fuel for learning. Read on to find out how I’m using porridge as inspiration for my marathon training, as well as the theme for one of my fundraising events. In Kenya, primary education is free but when parents cannot afford to feed their children, they send them to work, beg or scavenge for food rather than sendi...

Run, Rest, Repeat. The Tale of Two Races – Part 2: Great Newham London Run. Hot on the heels of the Iffley Miles. I headed to the Olympic Park to see if I score a second PB in as many days at the Great Newham London 10k. The day turned out to be amazing, tough and ridiculous in equal measures! You know when running is more than just a hobby when you go to bed early on a Saturday night, setting the alarm for 05:50 on a Sunday morning. WTF! These are the things you (and your wife) do in the name of running!

Juneathon day 22 – reassessing my goals | sophiebeeblogs
https://sophiebeeblogs.wordpress.com/2015/06/22/juneathon-day-22-reassessing-my-goals
June 22, 2015. Juneathon day 22 – reassessing my goals. I forgot to post my totals yesterday. Last week was poor on the running front, with just 14km logged. With all the other activity taken into account, the Juneathon totals so far are:. Running – 71km. Crazy dancing to 80s hits: 2hrs. Walking – 4km. Cross-training (bike) – 30mins. Missed days – 2. Today was a proper stretch session to help ease my slightly achy post-10k muscles, with a bit of core thrown in for good measure. Laquo; Previous post.

January 31, 2015. Whoop whoop, well done everyone, happy days and congrats etc. I finished Janathon on a high note, with my longest run of the year so far – a long, slow 13.1 miles. It was only supposed to be 13 miles, but I couldn’t resist the extra bit to get to half marathon distance 🙂. I took it slowly and had a great run. Man alive, it was cold though! And that’s not the end of it! So, now it is time for the all important totals! Cross training: 4.5 hours. Once again, the real fun of Janathon has b...

Interactive Pace Charts | Smashrun

Smashrun Stats for Runners. March 29th, 2015. Then we sobered up the next morning, and came to our senses. We realized that old run chart is a classic. It’s a pair of tried and true NB 574’s. Understated, free of pretense. It says how fast when. No animated bubble tooltip required. But we thought, what if we took that old classic and dropped a brand new engine in it? Say hello to your new run chart. It’s just like the old run chart. But behold! March 29, 2015. March 29, 2015. March 29, 2015. Love the upd...

Training, running, racing. Terrified or terribly excited? June 13, 2015. It’s the Liverpool Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon tomorrow and I’m heading towards it with a massive mixed bag of emotions. I ran it last year and loved it, at the peak of my running so far, achieving a PB of 3:22:39, which I was absolutely thrilled with and hugely proud of. Training continued to go well, I completed a duathlon in September then the Royal Parks Half marathon on October 12. Just seconds outside my half marathon PB. As to my ...

Juneathon Day 27 – parkrun. June 27, 2015. One hundred metres into this morning’s parkrun and I thought “I really hate parkrun”. Today was my 60th parkrun, so that thought was either a lie, or I am very good at convincing myself to do things I find repugnant. Juneathon Day 27 – 4 miles running and approximately 4 miles walking. The ugliest chicks around. 7 thoughts on “ Juneathon Day 27 – parkrun. June 27, 2015 at 5:21 pm. My Life as a runner, teacher, Newbie Triathlete, husband and father. Warning: Marathon’s can seriously damage your speed! Up to this point training for the occasional half marathon meant that training consisted of hill and speed work and a long runs of 10 miles. Training with a Paralympic blind footballer @KerynSeal allowed me to really push my speed and strength (especially as he is a lot younger than me! As with all first time marathoners I was hit with the dreaded ‘Marathon Flu! I feel this was the pi...

Yes, this is one of those things no one tells you about when you start running. Some runners may develop side stitches or rib cramps while running. Guess why. It's obvious now but wasn't four years ago when I started running. All my life I had been told to "Breath in through your nose, breath out through your mouth." Sound familiar? If you develop pain on your side right underneath your ribs as you run, guess what? Side stitch. If cramps develop in your ribs as you run, guess what? That's what I meant!

Follow me on twitter. Project Mojo: Week 3. August 9, 2015. Crash and burn . Unwisely carried on training through the week with an upset stomach until Friday when I flopped onto my bed as I couldn’t face an 8 mile run. An awful nights sleep followed as I kept waking up with a high temperature. I slogged my way round 5km at Raphael parkrun. Then spent the rest of the day in bed. I was meant to be running the Salisbury 5-4-3-2-1. Trying to bring a bit of positivity into week 3 of Project Mojo:. It’s ...

Thursday, June 25, 2015. Race Report: Sale Sizzler 2015 #1. Sale Sizzler's they live up to their name. This is the fifth Sizzler I've done and at twenty-three degrees this was the coolest conditions yet. I'm feeling relatively good running wise at the moment but never run that well in warm conditions. I was covered in sweat after a warm up so had a nice chill out on the grass by the track for the last fifteen minutes before the start. Thursday, June 25, 2015. Sunday, June 21, 2015. Running Data
Dissertation writing and distance running in the lab and on the road. Thursday, April 29, 2010. After training for the half, I feel ready to train for a marathon (kind of). I am full of excitement but I am also a little scared. Who hasn't heard about someone dying during a marathon? I mean the first marathon runner died upon his arrival at the assembly in Athens (there are contradicting reports of how far he ran and where he ran to but still.he died). Get excited. This should be interesting.

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Was the Globe 21k Route Long? March 22, 2010. Upon checking the Globe website, I’ve concluded that the 21k route actually was 21k. However, the route that we were directed to was really longer by close to 700 meters. Below is the route from km 2 to km 3: coming from Makati Ave. going towards the Kalayaan flyover, runners should have been directed to turn right to Paseo de Roxas then right to Buendia. Globe planned race route. Planned route through Heritage Park. Unfortu...
