Running into the missing piece

Running into the missing piece. Tuesday, October 14, 2014. It’s fall, only a few aspen are clinging to their golden leaves. The farmers market is finished, and frosts and snows have ended the growing season. Summer was a flurry; a near miss wildfire, gardening, end of life issues and healing. Through it all both Gary and I kept remembering the Ultra Caballo; people, food, the river. People came to market to congratulate Gary, and then strangers started bringing me baby blankets for the Raramuri children.

Running into the missing piece: The Ultra Caballo Blanco 2014

http://runningintothemissingpiece.blogspot.com/2014/03/the-race.html

Running into the missing piece. Tuesday, March 25, 2014. The Ultra Caballo Blanco 2014. On across the cable bridge on the Urique River, up and up we go through switch backs and rock walls a whole lot of people moving through this space and so many smiling , throwing high-fives as we run past each other. The faces of so many types of folks; Raramuiri quiet and focused,Mexicans determined and intent, Anglos, and crazy Sean with his feathered Marti Gras mask. Running into the missing piece.

Running into the missing piece: Day 4

http://runningintothemissingpiece.blogspot.com/2014/03/day-4.html

Running into the missing piece. Saturday, March 22, 2014. Mary and Bob walked up to church; Gary and I took a walk together. I had been reluctant to head out with the crew because everyone was so svelte, not that they would have discouraged me. And some of the trails made deer trails look like flat superhighways so it was nice to meander with Gary. The kids run everywhere and the realization of how sedentary we and children in America are becomes painfully obvious. It is across the river via a 200-meter ...

Running into the missing piece: November 2013

http://runningintothemissingpiece.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Running into the missing piece. Friday, November 29, 2013. How can I tell you the day is beautiful without sounding cliché? The day is bright and crisp; frost in the morning, patchy snow that reflects blue of the ultramarine sky. There is no wind, there are no clouds. We have the day to ourselves and hope to have a quiet meal with food to celebrate the harvest from our garden; squash pie, fresh mashed potatoes and the last of the japan truffle tomatoes with a baked chicken. Guilt is a driving force in hi...

Running into the missing piece: Day Five the Race of the Caballitos

http://runningintothemissingpiece.blogspot.com/2014/03/day-five-race-of-caballitos.html

Running into the missing piece. Tuesday, March 25, 2014. Day Five the Race of the Caballitos. We have been moved to the main kitchen due to my arm, Maria is very kind to share her space. Maria is one of the race organizers and is up from dawn to late at night meeting with people and doing all the last minute things that come with organizing an event like this. I feel like I am imposing but she won't hear of it. The other thing that is noticeable is that people are chowing like crazy. Guacamole is a c...

Running into the Sun

Running into the Sun. Wednesday, May 29, 2013. The last time I posted, it was February and there was snow everywhere. Yesterday I arrived home shortly after a rainstorm had passed through town and my house was so full of moisture all the mirrors were fogged up. There was condensation on the glass of all my framed geologic maps. The floor and walls were damp. It was disgusting. I slammed all the windows shut and turned on the AC and let it run without stopping for over an hour. Of course, what did I do?
