Running, Life and Between. June 15, 2015. So it’s been a while, that’s okay. Life has been busy. Since I last posted, I hosted another kick ass fat ass. Sixty-five plus people that all astonished me. Some awesome volunteers who braved the cold and stood around outside making sure people knew where they were going and were happy. I’ve also managed to keep plugging at 20-25 miles per week mending my achilles. It’s long and slow, but I think things are getting better. Think. The Strays →. Heck yes I do!

Running, Life and Between. October 11, 2016. So it’s been a while, but when the writer of a blog about running ceases to run, well, there’s not much to write. Sure I’ve dabbled here and there, but there isn’t a whole lot to share about a junk mile filled with discomfort. And I’ve been busy. January 14, 2016. Runningskirts.com, Dude. Does this make my butt look big? The main problem I had with the fit was the looseness of the waist. Not a tenth of a mile down the road and I had to hike it up. If I...For m...

Just Around the Bend. Six Hours in Paradise. Yin of the Beaver. After taking an eight year break break from running in college, I came back in 2010 not really sure what I could accomplish. For the most part, running was a way of getting myself healthy again and becoming a good role model for my son (who was born in 2010). At first I was just doing short easy five mile runs, but soon enough I was back to racing – albeit slow. 1 mile – 4:52. 5k – 16:45. 10K – 35:11. Half Marathon – 1:16:22.

Distance running in minimal shoes. Monthly Archives: July 2015. DF: Did Finish #runreal. What’s the best way to purge a DNF from your memory? Get back out there and run another race. After a 5 mile EZ run the morning of the day before the race, I went to watch another one of my nephews play baseball. Later that evening, after the party, he asked if I wanted to go on a run with him. How could I say no? My nephew was really interested in my TEMPOs – he was amazed at how light they are. I was a little surpr...

None of us mere mortals will ever have to answer the question: “how did you keep up your 100 mile training week while winning that indoor mile? 8221; However, some of the more general things that Greg had to say have some application for us as well. Basically, Greg liked to race. He was competitive. Who knows if he would have had the same level of success in the modern model of less racing? Unfortunately, all I&...

Distance running in minimal shoes. Monthly Archives: April 2015. Boston 2015 – Colder! This year I shaved five minutes off last year’s Boston Marathon debut. Three reasons. Number one: preparation. Number two: weather conditions. Number three: course familiarity. The race went better than I could have possibly imagined beforehand. The results have me looking forward optimistically to the Hospital Hill Run. Meted out a training plan that was both challenging and attainable. The past four months includ...

It is crazy to me how time can fly by and yet stand still at moments. Circles. Running 1.05 mile circles is how I decided to end 2016. It’s also how I started 2017. Almost 4 days removed from my 24-hour timed race, Across the Years. I am still on cloud 9. What A Rush. No cliff hangers here. I met my goal of running my 1. Sub 24 hour 100-mile race! Running, Life and Between. Monday, December 30, 2013. When I first started learning about Ultras, I learned about 50 and 100 milers. There were a few local races and I had known of a few wackos who ran them. Over time, I learned that there were people who would race for 24 hours - straight. I marveled at their huevos and wondered if I could ever grow a pair that big. For the last 48 hours or so, I have been captivated by the Across the Years. The thing I love and that really intrigues me about this whole...

Running, Life, Etc. Tuesday, December 11, 2012. Eugene - Full or Half? So I've just committed to going to Eugene next April. I was initially just thinking I should/would run the half and mostly because I had myself convinced I wouldn't run another marathon so soon after CIM and that I'd probably just run that again next year. I want to work on stamina and speed and things like that. So what to do, what to do? Tuesday, December 04, 2012. CIM - the real race report. The start was pretty uneventful - Nation...

Life Of A Runner
Life Of A Runner. Saturday, November 26, 2011. Workout Friday #2: Mile Repeats. Back again with another butt-busting workout that runners both fear and love: Mile Repeats. Mile repeats are a longer interval designed to push you just out of your comfort zone. The purpose of doing a mile repeat is to help build up speed, it's essentially like a weight workout for your legs because of the effort put forth. As with any sort of speed workout, start off with about a mile warmup. Depending on how many reps you'...
