Chronicles of a book-loving fiber junkie. Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Sunday was our valley's third farmers market this year with three left. Just across the road from us an entire branding operation was in full swing and boy were the cows unhappy about that. I should have made a video to capture their loud discontent. Our property owner's association leases the greenbelt to a rancher and today was the second day to get them them rounded up and branded before returning them to graze. This shopper just rode...

In Stitches: March 2015

http://sagecreekfarm.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Chronicles of a book-loving fiber junkie. Tuesday, March 31, 2015. We had a much different group at our guild weaving outreach this year, and if you're interested, you can read about it here. Last year was predominantly older women but this year the response was from families with young children. This boy's dad (in the blue shirt) is at the loom in the background. Of course, we did have very stiff competition from the most beautiful Saturday we've had yet this year. The next day she sent me this picture&...

Chronicles of a book-loving fiber junkie. Thursday, July 30, 2015. I saw on Iowa Weaver. S blog that she was weaving stash-buster towels, trying to use up partial cones in anticipation of a move closer to grandchildren. I thought - that's what we're doing, moving closer to grandkids! And speaking of Handwoven, my check arrived this week. The only thing still to come is their complementary copy of the magazine issue. We are writing to congratulate you on winning the Best Use of Color award in the Handwove...

In Stitches: Stash Busting Towels Redux

http://sagecreekfarm.blogspot.com/2015/08/stash-busting-towels-redux.html

Chronicles of a book-loving fiber junkie. Friday, August 07, 2015. Stash Busting Towels Redux. These are the stash buster towels. I have five pairs of colors and I'm lifting the colors alternately in harnesses 1 and 3, then 2 and 4, and I discovered that even when I put the same pairs together in the warp, they will still be different colors when I weave them. From now on when I do Hit or Miss like this, I'm using an odd number of pairs. Here I've lifted harnesses 2 and 4. Originally I had placed the two...

http://sagecreekfarm.blogspot.com/2015/08/books-books-books.html

Chronicles of a book-loving fiber junkie. Sunday, August 02, 2015. Books, Books, Books. I didn't realize how long it's been since I wrote a post on books and since I've been doing a lot of reading to kill time, I have quite a few books I'd like to share. I'll try to stick to my favorites to keep the list from getting too long. The Persian Pickle Club by Sandra Dallas. Crazy Ladies by Michael Lee West. The Star Side of Bird Hill by Naomi Jackson. I received this coming-of-age debut novel in prerelease fro...

Daisy Hill Weaving Studio: December 2013

The studio is located outside the beautiful town of Charlevoix, Michigan, about one mile from Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix. Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Every year my girls and daughters-in-law get kitchen towels from me for Christmas. Carolyn's towel was first. The colors she chose were light orange, red, green and yellow. The yarns used were 8/2 cotton. This towel is for my DIL Rebecca. She wasn't here to pick her colors, but she loves anything blue, so my daughters and I picked for her. I ...As I ...

The studio is located outside the beautiful town of Charlevoix, Michigan, about one mile from Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix. Thursday, March 20, 2014. Should Towels Be Hemmed Before or After Washing? Regarding wet-finishing handwoven towels before or after hemming, here is my rationale for doing hemming after washing. Even with washing first, some reed lines may still be faintly visible, as the center towel shows. Part of the wet finishing process is finishing your cloth with a hard press and that is...

Daisy Hill Weaving Studio: November 2014

http://jennybellairs.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

The studio is located outside the beautiful town of Charlevoix, Michigan, about one mile from Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix. Friday, November 21, 2014. A Years Old Project Finally Finished. Several years ago, probably about seven, I decided I wanted to learn how to knit socks. There were so many pretty sock yarns to choose from, so I picked out this pretty Panda Wool bamboo blend yarn, not realizing it wasn't the best choice for an inexperienced knitter. I finally finished the heels and was able to d...

Gypsy Rose was finished at the same time I finished Hamish, but because she was a gift, I didn't write about her right away, and then I got sick and didn't have the energy or desire to write. I decided today, that I can't wait any longer. She needs her story told. Hamish is on the left and Gypsy Rose is on the right.

Purple Fuzzy Mittens: July 2014

http://purplefuzzymittens.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Thursday, July 31, 2014. I designed the Glacier Bay Scarf. For a family knit-along taking place during an Alaskan cruise. With a combination of brand-new and seasoned knitters, the pattern needed to be super-easy, yet interesting, and provide fast visible progress. This pattern includes only knit, knit 2 together, and yarn over, and due to the open mesh sections knits up really quickly. The design of the scarf is reminiscent of rippling waves interspersed with horizontal sea ice. K2tog - knit 2 together.
