H walks into a bar. A physics teacher walks on the web. Asymp; 2 Comments. More and more, I not only try to teach Physics, but I try to teach my students something about learning as well. I want them to know that when they struggle, their experiences are normal. They’re in the 9th grade. They are just learning to think. Learning to think necessarily drags one through…. And you know what? This is a good thing. All of the sudden, their brains are in conflict with their guts. Hooray! Believe me, some folks.

Feedback to a former you. Are all goals created equal? November 9, 2011 · 2:16 am. Developing the Balanced Torque Model. Here’s how students in AP physics developed the idea of ‘turning effect’ (eventually named ‘torque’) using a bike tire, brooms (push-o-meters), meter sticks, and spring scales (pull-o-meters). 1 Observe the following scenarios, record any observations. Thoughts about teaching physics. Differentiation on the Tennis Court. April 15, 2012. Would I call the practice a success? Hmm It was certainly not optimum. The better kids were bored at times, and were seen texting between rallys. The weaker kids were overwhelmed and lost at times, and I fear subjecting them to such a direct comparison with the other more talented (and sometimes younger) kids will damage their confidence. Thoughts about teaching physics. July 27, 2011. Do College Admission Policies Provide Motivation for Sit-n-Get Education? This summer I’ve joined Twitter and begun blogging, and what I’ve read from both about getting students to “do” science has really resonated with me and inspired me. As a former engineer, I’ve always agreed with this and designed a very active and hands-on curriculum during the 8 years I’ve been teaching. She has a point. Thoughts about teaching physics. Make Teachers Classroom Students. April 15, 2012. As I mentioned in a previous post, I coach HS tennis. Last week I sensed our HS team was at a plateau with our practice routine. They were not getting a sense of the intensity and aggression I wanted to see on the court. So in an inspired moment, I decided to practice. To be a good student? What benefit could there be to the students if there was an adult teacher sitting next to them? How to do quality work on assignments.
