Scattered Thoughts

Monday, June 22, 2015. Push It Around and Fry It Up. Tonight while making soft crabs I remembered the directions my grandmother gave me over 15 years ago. I had asked her for some expert advice on their preparation while visiting with her back in the late 1990s. Like many good foods the directions she gave were simple; pat the crab dry and then dip it into some egg, push it around in a little flour with salt and pepper, and then fry it up until it's ready to eat. Scattered Thoughts: June 2014

http://www.scatteredthoughtsmary.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 30, 2014. Most of the day was spent traveling north on Interstate 81. Even a good 8 hours of sleep wasn't enough to keep me from being lulled to sleep by the rolling green hills and impressive mountains that were found in every direction I cast my eye. Fortunately, I wasn't driving. Sunday, June 29, 2014. Within an hour of winning the championship Mary was fast asleep in the back seat as her mother/aunt entourage drove east on Route 40 to make our way back home. Saturday, June 28, 2014.

Scattered Thoughts: Spring Break Pre-Party

http://www.scatteredthoughtsmary.blogspot.com/2015/03/spring-break-pre-party.html

Friday, March 27, 2015. Today was the last day of school for the third quarter. It was also the Friday before a 10-day spring break. Putting those two together pretty much equals chaos in sixth grade. Nobody wants to do much. Behavior can be challenging as both students and teachers count down the hours and minutes until a much needed break. Soda for miles. French fries galore. All you can eat pizza. Oh, and bowling- does it get any better than that? March 27, 2015 at 8:42 PM. View my complete profile.

Scattered Thoughts: March 2014

http://www.scatteredthoughtsmary.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 31, 2014. The first car I remember belonged to my parents. It was a black Ford Fairlane. Somewhere there is a picture of me standing by the front door of that car in a beautiful blue dress with a white Peter Pan collar ready to embark on my first day of Kindergarten. I happen to know the dress is blue even though isn't evident in the black and white photo. According to my mother a trip over the bridge also meant I was probably going to be throwing up in the back seat. Sunday, March 30, 2014.

Scattered Thoughts: Letter of Complaint

http://www.scatteredthoughtsmary.blogspot.com/2015/03/letter-of-complaint.html

Sunday, March 29, 2015. The sun is shining today. Thanks for that. The skies? Yes, they are bright and blue. A nice detail. From my seat on the couch I can see the red buds on the trees and birds flying about. Really, it looks just grand! I'm heading south in search of flip flop weather for a few days. I hope you get your act together by the time I get back. March 29, 2015 at 7:02 PM. Your letter of complaint is completely justified! March 29, 2015 at 7:02 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Teacher Town: Perspective Matters

http://myteachertown.blogspot.com/2015/03/the-dining-room-table-was-strewn-with.html

Sunday, March 22, 2015. It appears that while I was giving my students round-the-clock attention to their writing, one very important student in this house needed some attention of his own. I don't need any help finding the solution to this problem. Do my students recognize the names of assignments? Or better yet, could they explain why each matters? Do the parents of my students feel as bewildered as I do right now? March 23, 2015 at 9:16 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). More Slicers of Life.

Teacher Town: Iron It Out

http://myteachertown.blogspot.com/2015/03/iron-it-out.html

Thursday, March 12, 2015. The wrinkles on my huband's new shirt triggered a memory this evening. Remember how I used to iron your shirts? I asked, willing for the moment anyway, to help out with his casual wardrobe. Those were the days, we reminisced, when dropping shirts at the dry cleaner was too pricey consider. And I was pretty sweet back then, he said, to stand at the ironing board with a pile of collared shirts and a can of starch. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Slice of Life Challenge 2015.

Teacher Town: Birthday Retrospective

http://myteachertown.blogspot.com/2015/03/birthday-retrospective.html

Wednesday, March 18, 2015. How convenient it is that this annual Slice of Life writing challenge takes place through my birthday month. I kept a journal into my twenties, but I don't fill notebooks anymore with handwritten thoughts and observations. Today, I clicked through nearly 6 years of Teacher Town to read the snapshots I've taken of my life on this day (or approximately). It was more fun than iPhoto. Things that have made my birthday happy since 2010:. Delusions of a pickup line. In which I lost).

http://myteachertown.blogspot.com/2015/03/rough-edges-smooth-finish.html

Monday, March 16, 2015. Rough Edges, Smooth Finish. As we said good-bye, one of my sons said earnestly, "That was the best breakfast out I've ever had." Aren't we glad we got there when we did? Teacher Town: Good Sport

http://myteachertown.blogspot.com/2012/03/good-sport.html

Sunday, March 18, 2012. When our destination came within sight, I said, "Let's sprint to the end.". Nah," he said, but then he picked up the pace and sprinted on ahead. There was no way I'd catch up to him, his longer legs achieve a much broader stride then mine. As long as we were headed toward the same place, I was fine. March 18, 2012 at 10:15 PM. Walking the Dog: Don't Call Me Ishmael

http://tswalkingthedog.blogspot.com/2015/08/don-call-me-ishmael.html

Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Dont Call Me Ishmael. Curious how some of the most terrible dangers of the sea from past centuries have become today's tourist attractions. Yesterday we sailed through scores of ice bergs (small ones to be sure, but genuine ice bergs never the less) to reach a glacier, and this afternoon our cruise director (not Julie, but Richard) gleefully announced that we would soon enter "whale water.". Words to live by. Say Meh to the Dress. What color IS that dang dress? This reminds me of some noises that are emitted outside our local grocery store designed to prevent teenagers from loitering. I can’t hear them. Allie covers her ears and rushes to the car. (Mission accomplished, Harris Teeter! This morning, when I once again looked at the dress, it appeared blue and black. Had I somehow un-aged overnight? Would I be able to hear the noises outside Harris Teeter today? Snow fall is generally prettier ...

Words to live by. How I Dropped 30 years in 3 Days. Slice of Life Tuesday. These ladies in my life do not age. Instead, they get more beautiful with each laugh line, with every extra pound with every touch of gray hair. They are even more interesting than the day I met them. They are uproariously funny, and painfully sweet. My sides still ache from 2-1/2 days of laughter. Julie - Former writer who dropped her pen. As I See It. Create a free website. Words to live by. Slice of Life Challenge Day 8. I have front row seats at two downsizing efforts. Both close to home. My across the street neighbor recently moved to a continuing care community, and my mother-in-law passed away. Both ladies had lived in their homes for more than 30 years; each lost their husband roughly 20 years ago. Every new year, I find myself buying containers to neatly store my stuff. I hope this year will be a little different! The Lady in Red. Slice of Life Challenge Day 7. I att...

Waiting for my Muse

Waiting for my Muse. The Experimental Blog of an Aspiring Writer. Sunday, April 17, 2016. Boho Chic Bedroom Makeover. It all started with the bedspread. I was continually drawn to colorful, vibrant bohemian inspired bedding, so why not completely redo the bedroom to suit this theme? I found this beautiful bedding from Bed Bath and Beyond:. And so it began- and a Pinterest board was born. Lie #2: It was selfish and foolish of me to use money to makeover my bedroom when there were other ways to spend it.

Self Portraits Study

This is a photo journal/performance art piece. My goal is to take a portrait everyday that is representative (I hope) of the day I have had or how I spent it. I have always been fascinated watching Presidents age in photos and I hope to see the same for myself- aging, wear and tear, happiness, boredom and everything else that life is about. Scattered to scribble – Scattering thoughts while scribbling ideas

Scattering thoughts while scribbling ideas. That day I await, which will prove our existence worth it,the day humanity will work it out and cease to just be a dream for those who silently cry on the blood ridden streets of terror. While I sit on this side of the story, the other side the peaceful one,the one that can only hope and pray, the one which can’t figure any other way,I wonder what good writing could bring to those people who have lost the will to win. I wonder how much a single life matters, and I...
