Monday, February 28, 2011. My friend Ahmed called me tonight and told me he was coming over. So I cleaned up the house and waited . . . and waited . . . and waited . . . and, no Ahmed! So I decided to go out for dinner. (I made a big batch of casserole a few days ago and have been having it for every meal. I finally got sick of it and decided I needed something else.) Anyway . . . I finished my dinner and was on my way to visit another friend when Ahmed called. Yep! I'm not planning to eat for a few days!

I had just gotten back into town, and was wandering around a bit. I noticed a restaurant that had a sign advertising camel steak. How could I let that go? Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Two nights ago I went to the theater and watched my first Arabic movie. It was called "Asal Essoued," which means "Black Honey." It's the story of a guy who's born in Egypt, then emigrates to the States with his father when he's about ten years old. Thursday, January 28, 2010. Lost in culture . . . There were riots in both Algeria and Egypt after the game. That was all a few months ago. Roughly translated those mean, "son of a whore," "son of a dog," and "son of (something else I won't translate for you)." But suffice to say that it's not very polite. And some days in this place can be, well, rainy. Guess that's just really stating the obvious. It is the Pacific Northwest, it's like a redundancy- Oregon and Rain.
