Snippets of a Life. September in the garden. September has turned out to be quite cheerful in my little garden. At the end of August I had a big tidy up, and bought a load of autumn bedding plants. This isn't something I'd usually do, but at that point we were still planning to put the house on the market in September (needless to say, that overambitious plan has been well and truly abandoned), and I wanted to get something. 8203;The front part of the garden still looks a bit uninspiring, but at least it...

Sitting amidst the chaos - Snippets of a Life

http://snippetsofalife.weebly.com/blog/sitting-amidst-the-chaos

Snippets of a Life. Sitting amidst the chaos. Well, I finally gave in and ordered myself a new camera, and I'm hoppy, skippy, over-the-moon delighted with it. Can't promise my photos will be any better, but my. Of taking them is better, which means I look forward to taking them, and therefore take more, which is all that counts. And I can't fault it one bit - once I actually followed it properly it worked perfectly. Fortunately I sussed it eventually, and am now rippling my way to cheerfulness with an ex...

Rippling - Snippets of a Life

http://snippetsofalife.weebly.com/blog/rippling

Snippets of a Life. A few weeks ago. I started a mini ripple blanket. For a friend's baby. You might remember I had a few false starts, but once I got going, it rippled along most speedily and enjoyably. I've got plenty of wool, so I didn't buy any new for this project, which meant the size of my blanket was dictated by the amount of wool I had. Fortunately it got to a reasonable size before I ran out. I followed these instructions. I confess I'm not usually that diligent about blocking, but as I. I'm wo...

Escaping to the seaside - Snippets of a Life

http://snippetsofalife.weebly.com/blog/escaping-to-the-seaside

Snippets of a Life. Escaping to the seaside. This was just a few short hours ago, sat on a stripy deckchair on the pier at Skegness. We weren't even there for 24 hours, but goodness me I feel well rested and rejuvenated, just from that sort time away from the chaos at home. We took a hotel room looking towards the sea, and spent the evening drinking gin and tonic and watching the local festival in the park from the comfort of our easy chairs. I have a jar where I save two pence pieces specifically for a ...

Plastering - Snippets of a Life

http://snippetsofalife.weebly.com/blog/plastering

Snippets of a Life. Things have been rather beige round here of late. There have been many bread-related experiments - I've produced a passable loaf by hand once or twice and my bread-machine bread is pretty reliable these days. Last week's beige experiments were with plaster. So off I went to spend a day learning how to do it properly. My first layer wasn't brilliant (but then I'm told they rarely are). After lunch and a second layer, things were starting to look a little better. Ok, so this 6 foot x 4 ...

A cheerful living adventure. Growing food – what’s the cost? An outing to Blacka Moor. February 10, 2015. A cheerful living adventure. I’ve been feeling in need of a change of late. Bits and Pieces of My Life/ Dealing with Disabilities and then some. Friday, December 23, 2016. Elf on the Shelf for the ESL Classroom. Mrs Woodbury and I thought it would be fun for our ESL students to experience Elf on the Shelf. Here are a few pics of the mischief that our elf, named by the children, got into this December. Using Candy Canes to Rappel from the Bookshelf. Climbing the Coconut Tree to Leave a Message. This note is self explanatory. (Sigh). Christmas Pencils from Frosty the Elf. 1 lb lea...

Snippets of a Life. Home (otherwise known as Holiday Three). Holiday Three is proving to be quite jolly so far. We're treating our local area a little like we would treat a new holiday place - pottering around the charity shops, having tea and toast in a cafe (what do you mean that's what we'd normally be doing at the weekend anyway? This morning we went to the local Country Market. Of course, as soon as we got home the sun came out again, so I gathered tea, books and blankets (not trusting those clouds ...

Snapshots and Snippets

Moments of Our Messy Life. Friday, April 24, 2015. These days I have approximately 1 hour and 42 minutes 4 days per week when both children are in school, barring Spring Breaks, volunteering in the classroom, and illness. But who’s counting? At first I was a bit paralyzed by my unrealistic expectations of these few hours. I would make lists like:. Read book club book. Prep tomorrow’s class. And I would spend 15 minutes doing 6 things and not get anything done satisfactorily and feel like I wasted the time.

Snippets of a Quilter

Wednesday, January 28, 2015. This is my second little quilt finish of the Simple Whatnots Club 1. Didn't sign up for Club 2 because I still have four little quilt patterns to do from the first club. I've got one started and hope to have it finished next month. The Candy Hearts quilt was quick and I'm thrilled to have a heart quilt ready for Feb. I'm also happy to say at least 98% of this fabric came from my stash. #sewmystash2015challenge1. The pattern is from Emily Anns Kloset on Etsy. Time to catch up ...
